I don't know what are your tax rates, but I suppose that if you're based in the US you should be happy. Here in Italy we have a 26% haircut on capital gains. Period.
The only trick we have up our sleeve to cut a little bit of taxes is to sell in December all the positions in a loss, to be eligible for a credit on gains made in the 4 years to come. But if at the end of the year you just gain, you pay that 26%, no escape.
