TODAY IN HISTORY, via @Investopedia August 2, 2018 On this day in 2018, Apple became the first publicly-traded U.S. company to reach $1 trillion in market capitalization. The iPhone maker hit the mark just before noon Eastern Time. Shares finished the session up almost 3% to $207.39. That valued the company at $1,001,678,000,000. Apple then went on to become the first publicly-traded U.S. firm to be valued above $2 trillion (August 2020) and $3 trillion (January 2022).
