- Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao warned on Sunday that AI-driven combat systems were “more scary than nuclear.”
- His comments followed reports that China tested robotic wolf units with micro-missiles and grenade launchers in urban warfare simulations.
- U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday the United States must remain “number one” in artificial intelligence, calling it a strategic priority amid competition with China.
Binance co-founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao warned that artificial intelligence (AI) driven combat systems posed risks beyond those of nuclear weapons, reacting to reports that China is testing armed robotic units in simulated urban warfare.
Zhao, widely known as CZ, wrote on X that “AI inevitably leads to this, in every country,” adding that such systems are “more scary than nuclear” and vulnerable to a single hacker. He added that he did not see a way to avoid such threats.

Binance Coin (BNB) traded above $613 in the last 24 hours. On Stocktwits, the retail sentiment around Binance Coin remained ‘bearish’ as chatter levels around it remained ‘high’ over the past day.
Zhao responded to a post by crypto influencer and entrepreneur Mario Nawfal, who shared on Saturday that China had released footage of robotic “wolves” running simulated street battles equipped with micro-missiles and grenade launchers.
China Reveals Next-Gen 'Robot Wolf' Urban Warfare System
South Korea’s The Chosun daily reported on Saturday, citing footage aired by China's state broadcaster CCTV, that the robotic wolf units were tested in urban warfare training scenarios. The systems were categorized into attack and support roles and demonstrated autonomous coordination through real-time data sharing.
According to the report, the units were capable of moving at 15 kilometers per hour (9 miles) across uneven terrain, including urban ruins and coastlines, with joints designed to replicate wolf movement. The systems could carry loads of up to 25 kilograms (55 pounds) and overcome obstacles up to 30 centimeters (12 inches) high.
US Pushes To Lead In Artificial Intelligence
The developments came as artificial intelligence remained a key focus for both China and the United States in military and economic strategy.
Speaking at the Future Investment Initiative event in Miami on Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States must remain “number one” in artificial intelligence and described the technology as a strategic national priority.
Trump said the U.S. was “leading China by a lot” in artificial intelligence and added that the country was committed to maintaining leadership through technological development, talent, and business strength. He also described artificial intelligence as a major economic driver, saying the U.S. was building factories across the country as part of a broader technology-focused expansion.
“You have to have great respect for China for the work they do,” Trump added.
According to reports, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Wednesday that Trump will visit Beijing for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 14 and 15, this year.
