Alphabet Inc.’s (GOOG) (GOOGL) Google on Wednesday launched its latest affordable smartphone, the Pixel 10a, starting at a price of $499.

The Pixel 10a is part of the company’s A-series that brings many of Google’s AI tools at a more affordable price point compared to the Pixel 10 series. It sports a slightly reserved design, featuring a flat back and an older chipset compared to the more expensive Pixel 10 phones.

The Pixel 10a has 8GB of memory and comes in two storage options – 128GB and 256GB, priced at $499 and $599, respectively.

Alphabet’s Class A shares were up nearly 0.5% in Tuesday’s opening trade. Retail sentiment around the company trended in the ‘bearish’ territory at the time of writing.

What’s New In Pixel 10a?

The Pixel 10a sports a 11% brighter display than its predecessor, which should improve visibility under direct sunlight. However, the display size remains the same at 6.3 inches.

Google’s latest phone also charges slightly faster than the Pixel 9a. The company says that the Pixel 10a supports up to 30-watt wired charging and 10W wireless charging, compared to the Pixel 9a’s 23W wired and 7.5W wireless charging support.

For the first time, Google is bringing the Satellite SOS feature to its A-series with the Pixel 10a. This will allow users to connect with emergency services even when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity.

Another first for the A-series with the Pixel 10a is Auto Best Take, which ensures everyone in a group photo looks their best in a single click. The phone automatically analyzes multiple frames of the photo to pick the best shot.

Google is also leveraging its Gemini AI models to give users step-by-step guidance on lighting and composition while clicking photos.

The Pixel 10a is powered by Google’s Tensor G4 chipset and pre-orders are now live. It will be available for regular purchases on the Google store and across major carriers starting March 5.
