CSX CEO Highlights Importance Of Railroad Partnerships For Growth, Does Not Rule Out Merger As An Option

CSX Chief Joe Hinrichs stated that CSX is currently focused on its recent partnership with Berkshire Hathaway’s BNSF Railway.

Warren Buffett, the ‘Oracle of Omaha,’&nbsp; may be reportedly trimming stocks because he’s expecting a stock market downturn, according to Wedbush’s Paul Dietrich.&nbsp;The senior strategist&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/warren-buffett-stock-sales-cash-apple-dietrich-market-crash-recession-2025-8">told</a> Business Insider that Buffett has a track record of exiting markets before recessions, noting Berkshire Hathaway&nbsp;(BRK.A/BRK.B)&nbsp;has sold more stocks than it bought for 11 straight quarters even as equities hit record highs. He also highlighted that, over that stretch, the conglomerate offloaded $212 billion of shares while only purchasing $34.5 billion. This puts net disposals at more than $177 billion, exceeding the market value of companies such as BlackRock (BLK) or Boeing (BA).<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/BRK.B">Berkshire Hathaway’s stock</a> edged 0.8% higher in midday trade with retail sentiment on Stocktwits in the ‘bullish’ zone amid ‘high’ levels of chatter. This year, the stock is up more than 8%. It has gained more than 21% over the past 12 months.&nbsp;Dietrich also noted that Berkshire’s cash pile has more than tripled in three years to a record $344 billion. He added that Buffett has also paused buybacks for four straight quarters, a sharp contrast to 2020 and 2021 when Berkshire spent more than $20 billion annually repurchasing its own stock. UnitedHealth Group soared 11% in after-hours trading Thursday to $300.5, marking its first close above $300 in a month, following regulatory filings that showed Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway and Michael Burry’s Scion Asset Management each made large new investments in the health insurer during the second quarter.Berkshire purchased more than 5 million shares, worth approximately $1.6 billion, at the end of June, as shown in the filing.&nbsp;It is Berkshire’s first stake in UnitedHealth since selling out in 2010, when Buffett exited the stock amid a broader retreat from health insurers.&nbsp;The move positions UnitedHealth as Berkshire’s 18th-largest equity holding, behind Amazon and Constellation Brands, according to a CNBC&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/08/14/warren-buffetts-berkshire-hathaway-unh.html">report</a>. (BRK-A), (BRK-B) has doubled down on Sirius XM Holdings (SIRI) stock, as it picked up additional shares in the New York-based broadcasting company.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SIRI">Sirius XM stock</a> has fallen about 3% year-to-date.The investment holding company disclosed in a filing late Monday that it acquired 50.30 million shares in a series of transactions spanning&nbsp;from July 31&nbsp;to Aug. 4.Based on the weighted average price of the stock provided by Berkshire, the company spent $106.45 million on the purchase.Following the transactions, Berkshire now held 124.81 million Sirius shares, representing roughly 37% of the latter’s outstanding shares.Berkshire first invested in Liberty Media’s tracking stock in 2016 and began amassing Sirius XM’s tracking stock in early 2024 as an arbitrage play, Barron’s&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/berkshire-hathaway-liberty-siriusxm-stock-warren-buffett-71c9bfd9">reported.</a> At that time, Liberty Sirius’ stock was trading at a discount to the value of its stake in Sirius XM.&nbsp;In September 2024, Liberty Media combined the Sirius XM tracking stock with Sirius XM, and the consolidated company began to trade as a public company under the Sirius XM brand.Berkshire has been accumulating Sirius XM stock since then.Sirius XM reported its second-quarter results last week (July 31, before the market opened), which showed an earnings miss and a revenue decline, driven by weak advertising revenue and higher subscriber acquisition costs.
