Its adjusted revenue of $1.78 billion also topped estimates of $1.65 billion.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Mortgage Demand Showing Signs Of Improvement</h2>The company said Rocket Mortgage generated $35.8 billion in net rate lock volume, a 20% increase from a year earlier. A rate lock denotes a fixed mortgage rate agreed upon between the lender and borrower. The company's sold loan volume in the direct-to-consumer segment rose to $17.14 billion during the quarter, up from $14 billion a year earlier.“Affordability is slowly improving as rates ease. In the third quarter, the 30-year fixed rate dropped by 40 basis points to 6.3%, giving those buying and refinancing some much-needed rate relief,” said CEO Varun Krishna in a call with analysts, before adding that the rate of increase in home prices has also slowed.The U.S. Federal Reserve has lowered its benchmark interest rate by 50 basis points for two consecutive months. Mortgage rates typically decline following such moves. However, Fed Chair Jerome Powell warned this week that another rate cut in December is not guaranteed.Krishna flagged that existing home sales continue to hover around 4 million units, putting 2025 on track to be the slowest year for existing home sales since 1995. “Buyers are watching the market closely, they're waiting for clear signals and increased affordability before making their move,” he added. The company projected adjusted revenue of $2.1 billion to $2.3 billion for the fourth quarter, which is typically weak due to the holiday season.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Redfin, Mr. Cooper Deals Paying Dividends</h2>In the analyst call, Rocket executives also highlighted meaningful gains from the recently closed multi-billion-dollar acquisitions of Redfin and Mr. Cooper. Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac IPO Plans Face Democratic Pushback On Mortgage Rate Risks: Report

According to a report by Bloomberg, Senators Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, and Chuck Schumer sent a letter to Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte, asking him to prioritize housing affordability. 

The Trump administration is reportedly preparing to sell shares in mortgage giants Fannie Mae (FNMA) and Freddie Mac (FMCC), eyeing to raise up to $30 billion later this year.People familiar with the matter&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.wsj.com/finance/regulation/trump-aiming-to-ipo-fannie-mae-and-freddie-mac-later-this-year-13b138cf">told</a> The Wall Street Journal that officials are considering a combined valuation of over $500 billion and could sell between 5% and 15% of the companies’ stock. The report added that whether the government will proceed with a joint IPO or list the firms separately is still under discussion.&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/FMCC">Freddie Mac’s stock</a>, listed on the OTC market, gained more than 20% in midday trade on Friday, with retail sentiment on Stocktwits in ‘bullish’ territory. According to The Wall Street Journal report, officials are considering a combined valuation of over $500 billion and could sell between 5% and 15% of the companies’ stock.

CEO Jamie Dimon at the White House last week, followed by talks with Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon on Thursday. Freddie Mac (FMCC) and Fannie Mae (FNMA) stocks drew retail attention during extended trading on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump said he was “giving very serious consideration” to bring the mortgage giants public.“Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are doing very well, throwing off a lot of CASH, and the time would seem to be right,” Trump posted on Truth Social.He said that he would consult Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency William Pulte, among others, before making a decision soon.Fannie and Freddie buy mortgages from lenders and either hold these mortgages in their portfolios or package the loans into mortgage-backed securities, with a guarantee of protection from the government regarding any losses.The federal government gained control of the two companies after the 2008 financial crisis. House Republicans are currently divided on the fiscal deficit and a growing federal debt, which has topped $36 trillion.Billionaire Bill Ackman, who has significant investments in the two companies, had also urged the government to consider a sale after saying it would benefit both the government and the shareholders.
