Once prices broke major resistance levels in August, momentum traders, long-term investors, and macro funds piled in, turning a valuation gap into a full-fledged breakout.In a Saxo Bank note on Wednesday, Hansen added that eroding confidence in fiat currencies, persistent inflation concerns, and rising fiscal deficits pushed investors toward hard assets. While gold buying by central banks remained strong, silver, a cheaper and more volatile alternative, benefited.&nbsp;At the same time, industrial demand driven by electrification trends, solar power expansion, EV growth, and data-center build-outs increased demand, while years of weak mine supply kept the physical market tight.These pressures also intensified after silver was added to the U.S. critical minerals list, prompting large pre-tariff purchases that drained global inventories. Warehouse stocks in Shanghai fell to decade lows, London lease rates spiked, and demand from India added further strain.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Outlook For 2026</h2>Silver’s outlook in 2026 remains broadly constructive, though risks persist. A slowdown in AI-related investment or a reversal of U.S. tariff plans could ease tightness. The core personal consumption expenditures (PCE) inflation gauge met expectations, consumer sentiment improved, and jobless claims fell to over three-year lows, even as private payrolls recorded their sharpest drop in more than two years.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Silver Close To Record Highs</h2>Silver, meanwhile, extended its strong run. Spot prices (XAG/USD) rose 0.7% to $58.55 per ounce, hovering just below the record high of $59.34 reached last week.&nbsp;Analysts attribute the surge in prices to tight physical supply and depleted inventories due to high demand from industrial sectors. Silver has nearly doubled in value this year, outpacing gold’s almost 60% gains.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Greenback And Copper Watch</h2>The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) was down marginally at 99.05. The&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/DXY">DXY</a> measures the greenback’s strength against a basket of six key currencies: the euro, Japanese yen, pound sterling, Canadian dollar, Swedish krona, and Swiss franc.Copper prices have also seen substantial gains this year, with the metal hitting a record high of $11,771 per ton on the London Metal Exchange on Monday. Here’s How Gold Is Performing Ahead Of Fed Rate Decision Tomorrow

Gold prices advanced on Tuesday morning ahead of the Fed's rate decision on Wednesday, amidst a widely anticipated 25-basis-point rate cut.   

<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>BIS noted that both the S&amp;P 500 and gold prices have surged in “lockstep” throughout the recent market rally.</li><li>Since dipping in April this year after President Donald Trump announced the “Liberation Day” tariffs, the S&amp;P 500 has surged 38% so far, while gold prices have gained more than 41%.</li><li>On Monday, Oppenheimer’s Chief Investment Strategist John Stoltzfus said he expects the S&amp;P 500 to reach 8,100 by the end of 2026.</li></ul>The S&amp;P 500 index and gold are at risk of being in a bubble, according to the latest&nbsp;report by the Bank of International Settlements (BIS).The BIS pointed out that the S&amp;P 500 index and gold have exhibited “explosive behavior” jointly for the first time in the last 50 years.“A widely used statistical test to detect the explosiveness of a price process suggests that both the S&amp;P 500 and the price of gold have entered explosive territory in recent months,” BIS said.It noted that explosive prices are associated with low future returns.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Surging In Lockstep</h2>BIS noted that both the S&amp;P 500 and gold prices have surged in “lockstep” throughout the recent market rally.Since dipping in April this year after President Donald Trump announced the “Liberation Day” tariffs, the S&amp;P 500 index has surged 38% so far. This was often followed by a significant correction, such as in 1980 for gold (after having surged during the Great Inflation) and the burst of the dotcom bubble for US equities,” it stated in a report.Analysts at ING Think stated in a note on Monday that they expect the yellow metal to continue to shine in 2026. They expect gold prices to average $4,325 per troy ounce in 2026, implying an upside of more than 3% from current levels.Meanwhile, U.S. equities edged lower in Monday’s opening trade. The pair has benefited from a weaker dollar, rising expectations of a rate cut this month following dovish comments by Fed officials, and weaker post-shutdown economic data.Data from the CME FedWatch tool showed an 87.2% probability of a 25-basis-point rate cut at the December 10 meeting. A week back, the figure stood slightly lower at 86.4%.Last month, Deutsche Bank raised its 2026 gold forecast, expecting prices to reach $4,450 per ounce, up from its previous estimate of $4,000 per ounce.
