The S&amp;P 500 has lost about 508 points in the past month to slip 7.39%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average has declined more than 3,500 points or 7.16% in the past month.<h2 class="st-heading-2">The Massive Selloff</h2>Commodity Trading Advisors (CTAs), the algorithm-driven funds that buy and sell based on price trends, have sold about $85 billion worth of U.S. equities over the last 30 trading sessions, The Kobeissi Letter noted.The market commentator also said that the selloff marks the largest 30-day selling wave since the 2020 pandemic, when CTAs offloaded $105 billion, compared to about $80 billion during the March–April 2025 correction.“As a result, CTAs are now short -$37 billion in US equities, the 3rd-highest amount since 2019, behind the April 2025 low and November 2023,” it said, adding, “The market is setting up for a relief rally.”<figure class="image"><img src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/Screenshot_2026_03_30_at_10_36_17_PM_png_48593aacc4.webp" alt="Screenshot 2026-03-30 at 10.36.17 PM.png" width="1184" height="1086"></figure>&nbsp;Meanwhile, the team at Morgan Stanley, led by Michael Wilson said that there was growing evidence to indicate that the slide in equities were nearing their ending stages based on previous “growth scares” that did not result in a recession or rate hike, as per the Bloomberg report.The firm reportedly noted that more than half the stocks on the Russell 3000, an index that tracks the 3,000 largest publicly traded companies in the U.S., were down by over 20% from their 52-week highs. The firm also added that the S&amp;P 500 forward price to earnings ratio had also declined more than 15%, indicating that the market had already priced in the risks of the Middle East war.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Other Near-Term Risks</h2>The Morgan Stanley team, however, reportedly said that while the Middle East war risks, including higher energy costs, were already priced into U.S. equities, interest-rate hikes are a near-term risk for stocks.The sensitivity of equities to rates is close to the highest level of the past several years, as per the firm, which cited the 10-year Treasury yield closing in on 4.5%, a level that had pressured stock valuations in the past.“Whether the move in yields today is being driven by inflation considerations, a more hawkish Fed or by deficit considerations from the war or both, we think it’s an important risk variable to consider,” the strategists said, as per the report.Meanwhile, U.S. equities were mixed in Monday’s trade. Robert Kiyosaki Warns Of ‘Fake Money’ Collapse – Backs Bitcoin, Ethereum As ‘Safest Investment’ For 2026

The 'Rich Dad Poor Dad' author said Bitcoin and Ethereum are among the “safest investments” heading into 2026 due to inflation and rising global debt, which is likely to get worse amid the U.S.-Iran war.

<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>The Fed Chair added that the central bank’s rate decisions have a lagged impact on the economy, so hiking rates now will not help tame inflation due to the war in Iran.</li><li>Powell added that while it is too early to assess the impact of the energy price shock on the U.S. economy, the Fed’s monetary policy is well-positioned to address it.</li><li>According to the CME FedWatch tool, the probability of the Fed keeping interest rates in the current 3.5% to 3.75% range throughout 2026 ranged from 76% to 97%.</li></ul>Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said during an interview at Harvard University’s Principles of Economics class on Monday that the central bank is not facing the question of the impact of the Iran war-induced oil supply shock yet, while adding that the Fed will be mindful of the broader context when it makes a monetary policy decision.“Inflation expectations do appear to be well anchored beyond the short term, but nonetheless, it's something we will eventually maybe face the question of what to do here. We're not really facing it yet, because we don't know what the economic effects will be,” he said, adding that it is too soon to know how the Iran war will impact the U.S. economy amid a rise in energy prices.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Powell Says Need To Monitor Inflation Expectations</h2>Powell noted that the Fed’s primary tool for controlling interest rates affects demand, not supply. He added that the rise in oil prices is a supply-side shock, while acknowledging that it could affect inflation expectations.“You have to carefully monitor inflation expectations because you can have a series of these supply shocks and that can lead the public generally… businesses, price setters, households… lead them to start expecting higher inflation over time,” he added.Last week, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development forecast all-items inflation in the U.S. at 4.2% for 2026, a sharp increase from its previous forecast of 2.8%. The global policy group cited the ongoing war in Iran and President Donald Trump’s tariffs as reasons for its increase in inflation projections.“The breadth and duration of the conflict are very uncertain, but a prolonged period of higher energy prices will add markedly to business costs and raise consumer price inflation, with adverse consequences for growth,” the OECD stated.It expects core inflation, which excludes energy and food prices, to be at 3% in 2026 and 2.4% in 2027.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Fed’s Rate Decisions Have A Lagged Impact On Economy, Says Powell</h2>The Fed Chair added that the central bank’s rate decisions have a lagged impact on the economy, so hiking rates now will not help tame inflation due to the war in Iran.“By the time the effects of a tightening in monetary policy take effect, the oil price shock is probably long gone, and you’re weighing on the economy at a time when it’s not appropriate. This resulted in the removal of nearly four million barrels of oil from global markets, leading to a rise in the average monthly crude oil price from $17 per barrel to $36 per barrel.Alan Greenspan, who was the Fed Chair during this shock, kept rates steady at an effective rate of 8.23% to 8.2% between January 1990 and September 1990, before beginning to lower them to 2.96% in December 1993.“So we have precedent for the market leaning heavily on the risk of higher rates, and demanding a sizable risk premium, even though the Fed ultimately cut rates sharply in that episode,” the firm stated in its note.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Crude Oil Ticks Higher</h2>Meanwhile, crude oil prices ticked higher on Monday to hover above the $100 a barrel level despite President Donald Trump stating that Iran has agreed to the 15-point ceasefire plan “for the most part.”U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures maturing in May gained about 4% to hover around $103 per barrel.
