AT&T Is Spending $250B On Connectivity In The US – Here’s Where The Money Is Going

The telecom giant plans to deploy the funds over the next five years to scale fiber internet, 5G wireless networks and satellite connectivity.

AT&T Inc. (T) on Tuesday unveiled an ambitious plan to invest more than $250 billion over the next five years to expand and modernize its communications infrastructure across the United States. 

The multiyear funding push will focus on expanding fiber internet, 5G wireless coverage, and satellite-supported connectivity to meet growing demand for reliable digital access in cities, suburbs and rural regions. 

Expanding Nationwide Connectivity

The company said its partnership with AST SpaceMobile is expected to extend mobile connectivity to areas where traditional networks struggle to reach.

AT&T stock inched 0.6% lower in Tuesday’s premarket. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around the stock remained in ‘extremely bullish’ territory while message volume shifted to ‘high’ from ‘low’ levels in 24 hours. 

Building For The Next Digital Era

The telecom provider said it is also upgrading its public-safety infrastructure, including improvements to FirstNet, the dedicated network created for emergency responders.

AT&T said it is strengthening network security through its “Dynamic Defense” platform while introducing customer-focused features such as Wi-Fi personalization and enhanced data performance at crowded events.

The company mentioned that tuning its communications networks is essential for technologies that rely on massive-scale data processing, such as AI-powered applications, smart infrastructure systems, and connected transportation.

AT&T currently employs about 110,000 people in the U.S. and plans to recruit thousands of additional technicians, including large hiring rounds in 2026. 

T stock has gained 0.9% in the last 12 months.
