Mobix Labs Inc. (MOBX) on Thursday announced that it has been selected by a major manufacturer to conduct a feasibility study focused on next-generation smart munitions technology for anti-drone applications.

“The feasibility program is focused on evaluating technology designed to improve how certain munitions respond as they approach a target,” the company said.

Mobix stated that the early-stage program positions it in a segment set for continued investment and innovation.

Mobix Labs shares were up nearly 27% in Thursday’s opening trade. Retail sentiment on Stocktwits around the company was in the ‘bearish’ territory at the time of writing.

What Is The Goal Of The Study?

Mobix Labs stated that the goal of the feasibility study is to evaluate technology that is designed to improve the response of munitions and make them more effective as they approach aerial threats such as drones.

“Being selected for this feasibility program is an exciting step for Mobix Labs. It reflects both the strength of our technology and the confidence our partners have in our ability to contribute to advanced defense initiatives,” said Mobix Labs CEO Phil Sansone, adding that the goal is to help the munitions respond more intelligently as they approach their targets.

The company added that drones have become a growing challenge in modern warfare, resulting in an increase in demand for technologies to respond with better speed, accuracy, and adaptability.

Mobix Says Program Still In Early Stages

Mobix Labs added that the program it has been selected for is still in its early stages, stating that it is currently limited only to feasibility evaluation. The company noted that it does not involve production or deployment at the moment.

“If the program advances beyond this stage, Mobix Labs could have the opportunity to participate in additional phases of development,” it added.

Mobix Labs provides advanced engineered solutions for aerospace, defense, telecommunications, and other high-reliability markets.

MOBX stock is up 118% year-to-date, but down 34% over the past 12 months. The Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund ETF (VTI) is up 16% over the past 12 months, while the Vanguard Extended Market Index Fund ETF (VXF) is up 15%.
