Litecoin is a cryptocurrency that has evolved from Bitcoin after its own popularity in the industry, this alternative, or ‘altcoin’ has emerged to allow investors to diversify their digital currency package, according to Investopedia. Litecoin is one of the most prominent altcoins and was created by former Google employee and Director of Engineering at Coinbase, Charlie Lee. Litecoin was the first to alter Bitcoin and the most significant difference is that it takes 2.5 minutes for Litecoin to generate a block, or transaction, in comparison to Bitcoin's 10 minutes.  ‘While this matters little to traders, miners who use hardware to run Bitcoin's network cannot switch over to Litecoin. This keeps bigger mining conglomerates away from Litecoin because they cannot easily optimize their profits by swapping to another coin, contributing to a more decentralized experience. Litecoin also has bigger blocks, and more coins in circulation, making it more affordable and swift when transacting,’ Investopedia explained.  As explained above, Litecoin can transact a lot faster than Bitcoin, but there are also a number of other characteristics that investors need to know before trading. Litecoin can handle higher volumes of transactions because of the capability of transacting faster and if Bitcoin attempted to transact on the scale of its altcoin, a code update would be needed. However, Litecoin’s blocks would be larger, but with more ‘orphaned blocks'. The faster block time of litecoin reduces the risk of double spending attacks - this is theoretical in the case of both networks having the same hashing power.  Litecoin Technical Details: The transaction confirmation time taken for Litecoin is about 2.5 minutes on average (as compared to Bitcoin's 10 minutes). The Litecoin network is scheduled to cap at 84 million currency units.   Litecoin has inspired many other popular alternative currencies (eg. Dogecoin) because of its Scrypt hashing algorithm in order to prevent ASIC miners from mining those coins. However it is said that by the end of this year, Scrypt ASIC will enter the mass market.

Quantum Resistant Ledger is the first ever cryptocurrency and the only one in existence as of August 2018, to consider the threat that the future technology of quantum computing poses to cryptocurrencies and their working. It uses a technology specifically designed for post-quantum security, called XMSS, which makes it secure against powerful quantum computers even while using a Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism. Security against cyber-attacks is a very serious concern in this digital age, especially when you have digital assets whose loss is likely to lead you to bankruptcy.  QRL is the first blockchain technology that provides durability and stability through resistance to quantum computer attacks. The encryption methods used by modern blockchains can become vulnerable to quantum computers over the next ten years. QRL tries to create a blockchain with long-term stability. The protocol operates on its own blockchain currently using Proof-of-Work consensus, though it's evolving toward Proof-of-Stake through the planned "Crosslink" upgrade to enhance security, scalability, and energy efficiency. Zcash employs trustless zero-knowledge proofs (Halo) within its Orchard shielded pool to verify transactions without revealing sender, receiver, or amount information.   Users can choose between transparent public transactions and shielded private transactions through Unified Addresses, which work with both types. The network is faster and cheaper than Bitcoin, with new blocks mined every 75 seconds and transaction fees typically just a fraction of a cent. Privacy adoption has surged in 2025, with over 30% of total ZEC supply now held in fully shielded pools.  Zcash was created by a group of scientists in 2013 who initially proposed Zerocoin as a privacy extension to Bitcoin before building a standalone protocol. The ecosystem operates with a self-funded development model where block rewards support independent teams through the Zcash Community Grants Committee and a new Coinholder-Controlled Fund.

(VRN) and Whitecap Resources Inc. have agreed to <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/whitecap-resources-and-veren-to-combine-in-a-15-billion-transaction-to-create-a-leading-canadian-light-oil-and-condensate-producer-302396633.html">merge</a> in an all-stock transaction valued at C$15 billion ($10.4 billion). NYSE-listed shares of Veren traded 15% higher in Monday’s pre-market session following the announcement.If pre-market gains persist, this would be Veren stock’s best single-day performance since November 2020, according to KoyFin data.Veren shareholders will receive 1.05 common shares of Whitecap for each common share of Veren. Once the deal is closed, Whitecap shareholders will own approximately 48%, and Veren shareholders will own approximately 52% of the combined company. The transaction is expected to close before May 30, 2025Veren said the combined company will be the largest Alberta Montney and Duvernay landholder and a prominent light oil producer in Saskatchewan. The company highlighted that it will leverage the combined asset base and technical expertise to drive improved profitability and superior returns to shareholders.The combined entity will be led by Whitecap's existing management team under the Whitecap name, with four Veren directors to join the Whitecap Board of Directors, including the current President and CEO of Veren, Craig Bryksa.“This strategic combination unlocks significant value for all shareholders and together positions us as a stronger, more resilient company. With enhanced scale, deep inventory, and increased free funds flow generation, we're building a business with a differentiated competitive advantage,” Bryksa said.The new entity will continue to pay Whitecap's annual dividend of $0.73 per share, representing a 67% increase in the base dividend for Veren shareholders.Following the announcement, retail sentiment on Stocktwits climbed into the ‘extremely bullish’ territory (86/100) from ‘bullish’ a day ago.
