The Death Star was an enormous spaceship conceived by&nbsp;the series’ antagonist, Darth Sidious, and used by Darth Vader, one of pop culture's most iconic villains, to obliterate planets and intimidate rebel forces.In short, the dark side used it for galactic-scale destruction. But in true cinematic fashion, the "good guys," led by Jedi Luke Skywalker, blew it up to restore peace — until, of course, the next round of Star Wars sequels landed.The reference likely <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/sama/status/1953264193890861114">teases</a> the massive capabilities of the upcoming GPT-5, although the "evil" connotation isn't the best look. Still, the new AI model is expected to be a giant leap from its predecessor, GPT-4,&nbsp;which was released over two years ago.To be sure, consumer and enterprise adoption&nbsp;of AI has surged massively in the last two years, partly&nbsp;due to the benchmarks set by GPT-4. More recently, AI development has shifted to focus on highly capable models that use less and less computing power.After the X post, Atlman followed up with another saying that OpenAI is hosting a livestream at 10 am PT on Thursday.&nbsp;He <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/sama/status/1953296157586931745">said</a> the event “will be longer than usual, around an hour. Microsoft, Meta, X, and the Chinese AI industry, led by Alibaba, are investing heavily to compete with the ChatGPT-maker.Meta has ramped up its AI hiring spree, dangling multi-million dollar packages to lure top talent to its new Superintelligence team. Sam Altman Teases OpenAI GPT-5 Release With Cryptic ‘Death Star’ Post As AI Battle Heats Up With Musk’s Grok, Other Rivals

The comparison between a much-anticipated and likely sophisticated AI and a massive weaponized spaceship from 'Star Wars' is, at best, a little odd.

Tesla is under fresh scrutiny after an investigation found the company and other Elon Musk–led ventures reportedly owe more than $100 million in unpaid bills to small contractors.&nbsp;The findings, based on a review of lawsuits and construction liens, reveal that dozens of businesses hired to work on Tesla’s Gigafactory in Texas and other Musk-owned properties say they were never paid, or faced months-long delays that forced them into financial crisis, according to a CNN&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://edition.cnn.com/2025/07/31/us/elon-musk-company-unpaid-liens-invs">report</a>.In Texas alone, Tesla has been the subject of over $110 million in lien filings over the past five years, with $24 million still reportedly unpaid. Contractors hired to install plumbing, paint buildings, and outfit facilities with robots and security systems say nonpayment from Tesla derailed their businesses.&nbsp;SpaceX and X have also&nbsp;reportedly faced similar accusations, including lawsuits related to fuel deliveries, jet travel, and construction services.Among the most prominent cases is&nbsp;that of&nbsp;Jennifer Meissner, owner of Professional Process Piping, whose firm&nbsp;undertook a multimillion-dollar project for Tesla's Gigafactory. After dedicating her entire workforce to the project and investing in equipment, Meissner says Tesla suddenly stopped paying.&nbsp;Unable to cover wages, she filed for bankruptcy and drained her savings. “They just don’t understand how many lives they completely trashed,”&nbsp;Tesla ultimately settled in bankruptcy court, agreeing to pay $650,000 to Meissner’s subcontractors. However, Meissner says she remains hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. In court, a Tesla attorney acknowledged that the company is often slow to pay, saying: “I don’t disagree that it does take Tesla some time to pay,” adding “that goes for legal bills, too … I know it full well.”Other businesses have faced similar hardship. Full Circle Technologies, a small supplier of security equipment, filed for bankruptcy after Tesla allegedly failed to pay nearly $600,000 in&nbsp;outstanding invoices. Fuel supplier Sun Coast Resources claimed Tesla refused to pay for $2.7 million in diesel deliveries. Both cases were eventually settled.In comparison, other large tech companies operating in Texas have faced far fewer such claims,&nbsp;according to CNN. Elon Musk’s X Reportedly Faces Criminal Investigation Over Algorithm Tampering Allegations

The formal investigation into Elon Musk’s social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, by France has been launched based on a probe that was initiated back in February, earlier this year.

Linda Yaccarino announced Wednesday she is stepping down as chief executive of X, ending a two-year tenure defined by efforts to stabilize the Elon Musk-owned social media platform.“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of X,” Yaccarino wrote in a&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/lindayaX/status/1942957094811951197">post</a> on the platform.
