Analysts were expecting the company to report a loss per share of $0.62.“Our performance in 2025 was negatively affected by persistently weak production levels from the automotive sector throughout the entire year, an expiring five-year slab contract becoming value-destructive during its last year, and a newly adverse dynamic in the Canadian market,” said Lourenco Goncalves, Cleveland-Cliffs’ Chairman, President, and CEO.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Deal Update</h2>Investors were looking for updates on Cleveland-Cliffs’ deal with Korea’s largest steelmaker POSCO, which was initially announced in October 2025.While the company reiterated its timeline of targeting a definitive agreement in the first half of 2026, adding that the deal remains its top strategic priority, no other meaningful updates were provided.Goncalves added in a call with investors that the engagement between the two companies is “active and ongoing” and that the “duration of these negotiations reflects the seriousness and potential scale of the opportunity.”<h2 class="st-heading-2">2026 Outlook</h2>While Cleveland-Cliffs did not provide revenue and earnings guidance, the company said that it expects steel shipment volumes of about 16.5 million - 17.0 million net tons, marginally above 2025 volumes of 16.2 million net tons.The company also said that it expects steel unit cost reductions of about $10 per net ton compared to 2025, and announced capital expenditures of about $700 million in 2026.Cleveland-Cliffs said that its Q4 price realization fell by around $40 per net ton due to lagging indices on spot prices declining, automotive volume falling, and slab prices becoming more disconnected. Why Are CLF Shares Down Over 19% Today?

Cleveland-Cliffs reported revenue of $4.3 billion, flat year-on-year, but significantly below analyst consensus of $4.6 billion, according to data from Fiscal.ai.

(B) said on Thursday it expects gold and copper production for 2026 to be slightly lower than full-year 2025 levels, on the back of a significant increase in fourth-quarter earnings.The company expects 2026 gold production to range between 2.90 million and 3.25 million ounces, just below the 3.26 million ounces produced in fiscal 2025. That figure marked a 17% year-over-year decline but still met the company’s guidance.Copper output is forecast at 190,000 to 220,000 tonnes for 2026. In 2025, copper production climbed 13% from 2024 to 220,000 tonnes, also in line with the company’s expectations.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Better-Than-Expected Q4 Earnings</h2>Barrick delivered better-than-expected fourth-quarter (Q4) results, with net earnings of $2.41 billion, or $1.43 per share, and adjusted net earnings of $1.75 billion, or $1.04 per share. Analysts on average expected adjusted earnings of $0.87 per share, according to Koyfin data. Revenue surged 31% to $6 billion, significantly above analysts’ average of $5.16 billion. The board also approved a quarterly dividend of $0.42 per share.As of Dec. 31, 2025, Barrick reported proven and probable gold reserves of 85 million ounces at an average grade of 0.98 g/t, down from 89 million ounces in 2024.<h2 class="st-heading-2">NewCo IPO Update</h2>Barrick said that management has received approval to move forward with plans for an initial public offering (IPO) of NewCo, a subsidiary that would hold its North American gold assets. It stated that the completion is targeted for late 2026.NewCo will include stakes in Nevada Gold Mines, Pueblo Viejo, and the wholly owned Fourmile discovery in Nevada. Trump’s <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/why-did-rare-earth-stocks-mp-crml-see-an-uptick-after-hours-today/cmxyZ8jR4c7">proposed acquisition</a> of Greenland would boost its valuation because the U.S. would gain direct control over these strategic assets.&nbsp;MP Materials doesn’t have a project in Greenland, but it is the largest rare&nbsp;earth producer in the U.S. Control of rare earths would indirectly benefit the company as the country reduces its reliance on China.&nbsp;Trump pointed to Russian and Chinese destroyers and submarines in the region that pose a threat to Greenland’s independence. "We’re not going to let that happen, and if it affects NATO, then it affects NATO. But, you know, they need us more than we need them, I will tell you that right now," he stated.Meanwhile, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen views Trump’s threats to take over Greenland as the U.S. potentially turning its back on NATO. (CRML) announced on Wednesday that it has officially greenlit the construction of a multi-purpose storage and pilot-plant facility in Qaqortoq, Greenland.&nbsp;The project will support the company’s Tanbreez rare-earth and critical metals initiative by providing infrastructure for its Arctic mining operations.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Turnkey Contract Secured</h2>The work will be completed under a full turnkey agreement awarded to 60° North Greenland, which will manage the entire process from design through commissioning. The contractor is responsible for architectural and engineering design, regulatory approvals, procurement, transport, and phased handover.The planned building will be divided into three functional zones. The structure is designed to accommodate pilot-plant operations, core handling, storage, and administration while withstanding Arctic snow, wind, and frost conditions.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/CRML">Critical Metals’ stock</a> traded over 9% higher on Wednesday, after the morning bell. Cleveland-Cliffs posted a loss per share of $0.45, matching analyst forecasts, while revenue reached $4.7 million, slightly below the consensus estimate of $4.8 million, according to Koyfin data.The shares rallied on Goncalves stating that rare-earths could represent a strategic growth area for the company. Perpetua Resources (PPTA) is reportedly in talks with Glencore, Trafigura, and other parties about a partnership to refine antimony in the U.S., amid widespread efforts to diversify the supply chains of the critical mineral.According to a Reuters News <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/world/china/perpetua-resources-talks-with-glencore-others-us-antimony-processing-2025-09-26/">report</a>, the company confirmed that it is speaking with two companies, alongside Clarios and Sunshine Silver, about a refining partnership and intends to request proposals in the coming weeks, with a decision expected by the end of the year.Antimony has a wide range of applications, including night vision technology, explosives, armor-piercing ammunition, and grid-scale energy storage batteries. Perpetua Resources Speaking With Glencore, Trafigura To Bolster US Antimony Refining Amid China Export Ban: Report

United States Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing Peter Navarro said Thursday that Washington will maintain tariffs on steel and aluminum with no exemptions for the European Union.“There will be no exemptions, no exclusions for steel and aluminum tariffs,” Navarro told reporters. He noted that the U.S. added more than 400 new products to the tariff list this week to curb manipulation and circumvention. “Every time we try to give an exemption or exclusion to one of our allies, they abuse it totally. We learned that it was a slippery slope,” Navarro said, recalling Trump’s previous term in office.Navarro also praised the administration’s 15% tariff on cars, describing it as a cornerstone of Trump’s trade strategy with Europe. “Anybody who criticizes Trump’s policy has to look at the president’s magnificent achievement in dealing with the EU,” he said.His comments come after the U.S. and EU&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/us-eu-announce-tariffs-autos-pharma/chsSuh2Rdid">issued</a> a joint statement earlier on Thursday, formalizing the trade deal announced back in July. It is, after all, one of the largest entities in the world. It’s important not just economically but strategically, yet for many, many years it has been taking unfair advantage of the U.S.—consistently higher tariffs, consistently higher non-tariff barriers,” Navarro added.U.S. markets were trending lower ahead of Powell’s speech at Jackson Hole on Friday.
