The Cosmos network consists of many independent, parallel blockchains, called zones, each powered by classical Byzantine fault-tolerant (BFT) consensus protocols like Tendermint. The architecture uses classic BFT and Proof-of-Stake algorithms, instead of Proof-of-Work. By creating a new zone, you can plug any blockchain system into the Cosmos hub and pass tokens back and forth between those zones, without the need for an intermediary.  While the Cosmos Hub is a multi-asset distributed ledger, there is a special native token called the atom. ATOM have three use cases: as a spam-prevention mechanism, as staking tokens, and as a voting mechanism in governance.  As a spam prevention mechanism, ATOM are used to pay fees. The fee may be proportional to the amount of computation required by the transaction, similar to Ethereum’s concept of “gas”. Fee distribution is done in-protocol and a protocol specification is described here.  As staking tokens, ATOM can be “bonded” in order to earn block rewards. The economic security of the Cosmos Hub is a function of the amount of ATOM staked. The more ATOM that are collateralized, the more “skin” there is at stake and the higher the cost of attacking the network. Thus, the more ATOM there are bonded, the greater the economic security of the network.  Atom holders may govern the Cosmos Hub by voting on proposals with their staked ATOM.

If they don’t, the stock market, which carries significant weight in Big Tech and AI-linked stocks, could crash.&nbsp;&nbsp;xAI’s cash burn rate, which Bloomberg sources report is less than $1 billion a month, is, however, significantly lower than OpenAI's. Musk and his xAI are the most recent entrants in the AI space.Interestingly, the Tesla founder said in a recent Joe Rogan podcast interview that he was essentially forced to step in after calling for the AI industry to slow down. Retail traders overwhelmingly picked SpaceX as their most anticipated 2026 IPO, far outpacing OpenAI and Discord.

He has alleged that OpenAI violated its founding mission of nonprofit-style, equitable growth of AI by restructuring into a for-profit entity, which it&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/open-ai-microsoft-gear-up-for-next-phase-of-partnership-as-chat-gpt-maker-nears-for-profit-conversion/chw8BmhRdw2">completed last year</a>.&nbsp;“This case is going to trial,” and there is “plenty of evidence” suggesting OpenAI’s leaders made assurances that its original nonprofit structure was going to be maintained, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers said, indicating that she plans to reject OpenAI’s plea to dismiss the case. While some are set to be implemented in the next few years, a few notable ones took effect on Jan. 1.Among them are rules requiring major AI companies to publish safety and security details; prohibiting AI developers from asserting that the AI autonomously caused harm as a legal defense in civil lawsuits; prohibiting AI systems from misrepresenting themselves as licensed medical professionals; and laws against deepfake pornography.Later in the year, Colorado would implement an AI regulation - directly named in Trump’s criticism of state AI laws - requiring AI companies to disclose information about high-risk systems and put in place measures to prevent algorithmic discrimination.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Data Privacy</h2>Indiana is implementing a law that establishes a framework for users to obtain, correct, and delete the personal information companies hold about them. Similarly, Rhode Island has a new law that requires disclosure of how personal information is collected and sold.Maine is implementing a law that requires, among other things, companies to disclose subscription terms and to offer a simple cancellation method. A similar regulation by the Federal Trade Commission&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.theverge.com/news/702398/ftc-click-to-cancel-rule-struck-down-appeals-court">did not pass</a> an appeals court test last year.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Children Safety</h2>Nebraska is implementing a law to limit the excessive use of social media and apps by children. It mandates restrictions on app features such as notifications, in-game purchases, and infinite scrolling for children, and addresses “dark patterns” that keep kids online. Here’s a look at the company’s data center footprint.<h2 class="st-heading-2">A Colossal Project</h2>The Memphis site, known as Colossus and built at a former Electrolux facility, is the heart of xAI’s compute operations. The site went live with 100,000 H100 Nvidia clusters in September 2024 – a feat, Musk said at the time, achieved in just 122 days.&nbsp;He had said in an&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1830650370336473253?lang=en">X post</a>, “Colossus is the most powerful AI training system in the world,” and would double capacity to “200k (50k H200s) in a few months.”&nbsp;Over the past year, Musk has repeatedly signaled plans to scale aggressively. xAI’s data centers, which host and train Grok — the company’s flagship AI bot competing with ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini — require additional capacity to support surging demand for AI applications. Musk has boldly set a&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1947704195844608094">target</a> of compute capacity equivalent to 50 million units of H100 servers in five years.&nbsp;To be sure, some residents have&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://time.com/7021709/elon-musk-xai-grok-memphis/">criticized</a> xAI's continued expansion in Memphis, arguing it will strain the grid and worsen the area’s air quality. To win them over, xAI has provided the local utility with discounted Tesla-manufactured batteries and built a water-recycling plant.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Colossus 2</h2>Central to the expansion is new funding; xAI is reportedly&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/elon-musks-xai-nears-new-funding-doubling-its-valuation-to-230b-report/cLP8zzSREJ1">in talks to raise</a> about $15 billion in debt and equity from investors, mainly to expand its AI infrastructure.Earlier this year, Musk announced a second site, Colossus 2, located in South Memphis.
