Apple Inc. is reportedly testing a standalone app for its Siri voice assistant alongside a new feature name as “Ask Siri” that will work across Apple’s software, as part of a broader artificial intelligence overhaul.
Apple also is modernizing Siri by giving it a fresh look and chatbot-like experience, Bloomberg news reported on Tuesday, citing people with knowledge of the matter. The new Siri is slated to be unveiled June 8 at the iPhone maker’s Worldwide Developers Conference as part of the iOS 27 and macOS 27 operating systems, the report added.
Siri App
Apple is reportedly testing a dedicated Siri app for the iPhone, iPad and Mac later this year. The app’s main interface will display prior conversations in either a list or a grid of rounded rectangles with text previews.
The report said that Apple is working to replace its existing on-device search system, Spotlight, with Siri. Apple users will still be able to trigger Siri via the power button or voice command, but the tech giant is testing a redesigned interface that replaces the glowing edges effect introduced in iOS 18, the report added.
Delays
Apple has been delaying the overhaul of its voice assistant Siri. Apple first unveiled its plans to update Siri during its WWDC event in 2024, however it was not released at the time.
Apple initially announced that it would debut in spring 2025. The features were then delayed until this month and again till later this year, Bloomberg’s earlier report said. The company has been struggling to gain traction with its in-house Apple Intelligence and has been pushing to rebuild the AI platform.
