Bitcoin is the first successful internet money based on peer-to-peer technology; whereby no central bank or authority is involved in the transaction and production of the Bitcoin currency. It was created by an anonymous individual/group under the name, Satoshi Nakamoto. The source code is available publicly as an open source project, anybody can look at it and be part of the developmental process.  Bitcoin is changing the way we see money as we speak. The idea was to produce a means of exchange, independent of any central authority, that could be transferred electronically in a secure, verifiable and immutable way. It is a decentralized peer-to-peer internet currency making mobile payment easy, very low transaction fees, protects your identity, and it works anywhere all the time with no central authority and banks.  Bitcoin is designed to have only 21 million BTC ever created, thus making it a deflationary currency. Bitcoin uses the SHA-256 hashing algorithm with an average transaction confirmation time of 10 minutes. Miners today are mining Bitcoin using ASIC chip dedicated to only mining Bitcoin, and the hash rate has shot up to peta hashes.  Being the first successful online cryptography currency, Bitcoin has inspired other alternative currencies such as Litecoin, Peercoin, Primecoin, and so on.  The cryptocurrency then took off with the innovation of the turing-complete smart contract by Ethereum which led to the development of other amazing projects such as EOS, Tron, and even crypto-collectibles such as CryptoKitties.

On Ethereum, all transactions and smart contract executions require a small fee to be paid. This fee is called Gas. In technical terms, Gas refers to the unit of measure on the amount of computational effort required to execute an operation or a smart contract. The more complex the execution operation is, the more gas is required to fulfill that operation. Gas fees are paid entirely in Ether (ETH), which is the native coin of the blockchain. The price of gas can fluctuate from time to time depending on the network demand.

Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Billionaire investor Ken Griffin reportedly warned on Thursday that U.S. consumers have yet to feel the full impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs and predicted only one more rate cut this year.“The inflationary impulse from tariffs has only passed about 50% through the economy at this point. It’s still coming,” the Citadel founder told CNBC. He added that a 3% inflation rate “could be grating to tens of millions of American households.”Griffin said that higher import costs from the tariffs are still feeding through supply chains, keeping inflation stuck above the Fed’s 2% target. He sees only one additional quarter-point rate cut, despite slowing job growth this year, and expects inflation to remain in the mid-2% to 3% range in 2026.&nbsp;“The consumer’s going to pay,” he said.Griffin also urged the White House to preserve the Fed’s independence. “If I were the president, I would let the Fed do their job, and I would let the Fed have as much perceived and real independence as possible, because the Fed often has to make choices that are pretty painful to make,” he said. “If the president’s perceived as being [in] control of the Fed, then what happens when those painful choices have to be made?”In the interview, Griffin singled out Apple (AAPL) as an example of how tariff exemptions can distort competition, arguing the iPhone maker should not be spared duties on devices manufactured overseas.&nbsp;While Apple has diversified production into India and Vietnam, he criticized what he sees as backroom deals with large corporations. “We’re just going to continue to favor big and connected businesses in America?” he asked. “When the state becomes involved in picking winners and losers, there’s only one way this game ends. (AAPL) has asked the European Commission (EC) to repeal the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in response to the European Union’s (EU) executive arm’s call for submission of views regarding the act.The DMA was adopted by the EU in 2022 as a regulatory tool to regulate the power of the most prominent digital companies, including search engines, app stores, and messaging services, to prevent anti-competitive practices.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/AAPL">Apple's stock</a> has declined for two straight sessions after&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/apple-stock-turns-green-for-the-year-fresh-highs-in-sight/chDhoABR3Pr">turning green for the year</a> on Monday following positive commentary regarding the uptake of its latest iPhone variants. On Stockwits, retail sentiment toward Apple remained ‘bullish’ (58/100) and the message volume was at ‘high’ levels. Making these features, which would protect user data, available to non-Apple products and apps requires a lot of engineering work, it added.The features Apple cited included the Live Translation feature available for AirPods, iPhone Mirroring, which allows users to see and interact with their iPhones from their Mac, and Visited Places and Preferred Routes on Maps.“And according to the European Commission, under the DMA, it’s illegal for us to share these features with Apple users until we bring them to other companies’ products, Apple said, adding that “if we shared them any sooner, we’d be fined and potentially forced to stop shipping our products in the EU.”Apple said the “DMA slows us down” and that “our EU users’ experience on Apple products will fall further behind.”Compliance with DMA with respect to App Store increases risks when downloading apps or making payments, provides a less intuitive experience and allows exposure to harmful apps, the company said.It noted that DMA lets other companies request access to user data and the core technologies of Apple products. The tech giant also stated that EC’s interpretation of the DMA rules is constantly evolving, making it nearly impossible for companies to determine how to comply with them.“Over time, it’s become clear that the DMA isn’t helping markets. Intel Corp.’s (INTC) shares rose 6.41% in Wednesday’s regular session, and added 2.2% in extended trading on the prospects of the chipmaker getting another lifeline — this time from Apple, Inc. (AAPL).Intel has held talks with Apple regarding a potential investment by the Tim Cook-led company, as well as a collaboration between the two parties, Bloomberg&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-09-24/intel-is-seeking-an-investment-from-apple-as-part-of-its-comeback-bid">reported,</a> citing people familiar with the matter. The report cautioned that the talks were in an early stage and may not come to fruition. The struggling chipmaker has also reportedly sent feelers to other companies regarding potential investments.Incidentally, Apple was a longtime Intel customer before transitioning to in-house chip development, beginning in 2020.
