Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Bitcoin is designed to have only 21 million BTC ever created, thus making it a deflationary currency. Bitcoin uses the SHA-256 hashing algorithm with an average transaction confirmation time of 10 minutes. Miners today are mining Bitcoin using ASIC chip dedicated to only mining Bitcoin, and the hash rate has shot up to peta hashes.  Being the first successful online cryptography currency, Bitcoin has inspired other alternative currencies such as Litecoin, Peercoin, Primecoin, and so on.  The cryptocurrency then took off with the innovation of the turing-complete smart contract by Ethereum which led to the development of other amazing projects such as EOS, Tron, and even crypto-collectibles such as CryptoKitties.

(FIG), a cloud-based design tool company&nbsp;that recently made a stellar market debut,&nbsp;revealed late Tuesday that it reached a settlement agreement with Motiff&nbsp;in July to resolve their intellectual property disputes in the U.S. and Singapore.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/FIG">Figma stock</a> showed a muted reaction to the announcement and traded up merely 0.35% in the overnight session.The lawsuit was filed by Figma in September 2024, alleging breach and contract and copyright violation by Motiff and its affiliates. Illinois-based Motiff, located in Chicago, is a provider of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered user interface design tools.The settlement agreement&nbsp;requires Motiff to cease selling the current version of its Motiff Editor Tool and any future products derived from it, globally, except in mainland China. In China, Motiff would sell its current Editor Tool for a year before reengineering and redesigning the product. Motiff has also agreed to reimburse Figma’s legal expenses.A Figma spokesperson said, “We welcome fair competition and strongly believe that no one should be allowed to copy our or others’ IP to gain an advantage.”&nbsp;On Stocktwits, retail traders largely welcomed the move. Figma (FIG) had a rip-roaring debut on Wall Street as the stock surged up 250% on its trading debut on the NYSE on Thursday. Reposing faith in the cloud-based design tool company, Cathie Wood’s Ark Invest, an investor in disruptive innovative technology, lapped up about 60,000 shares in the company.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/FIG">Figma stock</a> began trading at $84.11, significantly higher than the initial public offering (IPO) price of $33 per share, and fluctuated within a range of $84.11 to $124.63. The session ended at $115.50. The IPO price was increased from the previously estimated $30 to $32 price range. Figma (FIG) shares&nbsp;surged&nbsp;in their Nasdaq debut on Thursday, marking a&nbsp;strong&nbsp;public market entry for the design and collaboration software firm nearly two years after its planned $20 billion acquisition by Adobe (ADBE) was abandoned.<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/FIG">Figma’s stock</a> opened at&nbsp;$102&nbsp;and rose as much as&nbsp;200% from its IPO price of $33 per share. The offering raised $19.8 billion for the company by selling 36.9 million shares, just shy of the valuation Adobe had offered in its canceled acquisition and amounting to nearly 12% of the 40-year-old design giant’s current market valuation.On Stockwits, the newly listed company already had over 6,000 watchers, and retail sentiment rose within ‘extremely bullish’ territory over the past day.
