Guess the amount of subsidies for this India investment in Iowa ? Can then guess what the tax burden for each job that is created by this will cost the US tax payers ? The devils in the boring details

Using the 1,750 permanent-job figure & the $1.36 billion maximum Iowa incentive package, the arithmetic is striking

Cost per permanent job
$1.36 billion ÷ 1,750 permanent jobs = ~$777,000 per permanent job.

Breaking down the $1.36 billion
The preliminary package presented to lawmakers was approximately:

$1.145 billion — investment tax credits
$154.35 million — sales-tax refunds
$60.5 million — withholding-tax credits
Total: ~$1.36 billion

The Iowa project is part of an $18 billion investment in the U.S. by India’s Essar Group, which the company calls the largest single investment in a steel complex in American history which will have significant subsidies on the backs of US taxpayers. There's other tax incentives

Remember Foxconn in Wisconsin that was to create 13,000 permanent jobs & was a $10 billion dollar US investment from Taiwan w/US subsidies @ $2.85 billion for the project. The jobs created was ONLY 1,200 jobs which was 9% of what was "agreed to". The US govt still gave them $4 billion for the project anyway

NBC reports that Mount Pleasant alone spent more than $100 million in its effort to attract Foxconn. & according to the investigation, that money won't be recovered for decades. That's separate from the broader $1.2+ billion in state/local public spending

1 of the most interesting developments is that Microsoft purchased part of the Foxconn property for more than $100 million & is developing a server farm there. But the money WENT TO Foxconn, because Foxconn still owned the property—not to Mount Pleasant

So TAXPAYERS HELPED create the infrastructure & assemble the site, & eventually another giant technology company is using part of the land

Laugh to win
