Bitcoin uses the SHA-256 hashing algorithm with an average transaction confirmation time of 10 minutes. Miners today are mining Bitcoin using ASIC chip dedicated to only mining Bitcoin, and the hash rate has shot up to peta hashes.  Being the first successful online cryptography currency, Bitcoin has inspired other alternative currencies such as Litecoin, Peercoin, Primecoin, and so on.  The cryptocurrency then took off with the innovation of the turing-complete smart contract by Ethereum which led to the development of other amazing projects such as EOS, Tron, and even crypto-collectibles such as CryptoKitties.

The price of gas can fluctuate from time to time depending on the network demand.

Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Billionaire investor Ken Griffin reportedly warned on Thursday that U.S. consumers have yet to feel the full impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs and predicted only one more rate cut this year.“The inflationary impulse from tariffs has only passed about 50% through the economy at this point. It’s still coming,” the Citadel founder told CNBC. He added that a 3% inflation rate “could be grating to tens of millions of American households.”Griffin said that higher import costs from the tariffs are still feeding through supply chains, keeping inflation stuck above the Fed’s 2% target. Q2 GDP, instead of moving incrementally higher or lower, blossomed from +3.3% to +3.8% -- half a percentage point.

The U.S. economy grew at an annualized rate of 3.8% in the second quarter, the Commerce Department reported Thursday in its third and final estimate.&nbsp;The figure is up from 3.3% in the previous estimate and well above the 3% initially reported. The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) attributed the gain primarily to a decline in imports and a sharp increase in consumer spending. Personal consumption expenditures rose at a 2.5% annualized pace, up from 1.6% in the second estimate. These positive contributions were partly offset by decreases in investment and exports.Real final sales to private domestic purchasers, which combine consumer spending and gross private fixed investment, increased 2.9%, revised up one percentage point from the prior estimate. The BEA noted that the upturn from the first quarter reflected stronger consumer demand and weaker imports, which outweighed slower investment and export activity.The GDP report comes as the labor market showed resilience. US GDP Growth Revised Up To 3.8% In Q2 Driven By Strong Consumer Spending 

Consumer spending was revised sharply higher, with personal consumption expenditures rising at a 2.5% annualized pace.

The U.S. labor market showed&nbsp;improvement&nbsp;over the past week, with jobless claims&nbsp;coming in cooler than expected.&nbsp;Weekly jobless claims&nbsp;fell&nbsp;by&nbsp;14,000&nbsp;to&nbsp;218,000&nbsp;in the week ended September 20, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Economists&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.marketwatch.com/economy-politics/calendar">polled</a> by Market Watch had forecast the figure to be 235,000. The prior week’s jobless claims were revised to&nbsp;232,00 from 231,000.Continuing claims, an indicator of the size of the total unemployed population, increased by&nbsp;2,000&nbsp;to 1.92 million, also lower than the consensus estimate of 1.93 million. The continuing-claims data lag the initial-claims data by a week.Meanwhile, the second-quarter (Q2) GDP was revised to 3.8%, down 0.5% from the prior estimate, the Commerce Department reported on Thursday. The figure stood above the expected 3.3%. The adjustment reflected stronger-than-expected consumer spending. GDP had contracted 0.6% in the first quarter (Q1).&nbsp;The data comes in a week after the Federal Reserve cut its benchmark rate by a quarter point to a range of 4.00% to 4.25%. New home sales in the United States surged by more than 20% in August, surpassing Wall Street estimates.According to data released by the Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, sales of single-family houses in August stood at a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 800,000, beating Dow Jones’ median forecast of 650,000, according to&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.marketwatch.com/economy-politics/calendar">MarketWatch</a>.According to the report, new home sales in July stood at 664,000, and 693,000 in August 2024. The surge in new home sales in August also reduced the available inventory of new homes during the month, which declined 1.4% to 490,000 units compared to July. However, this was still 4% above the inventory of 471,000 units in August 2024.As a result, the supply of new homes stood at 7.4 months in August, according to the government report, down from 9 months in July and 8.2 months during the same period a year ago.The surge in demand also increased the median sales price of new homes,&nbsp; which rose to $413,500 in August, from $395,100 in July. During the same period last year, the median sales price was $405,800.Meanwhile, U.S. equities declined in Wednesday’s midday trade.
