Dow futures bucked the trend, rising 0.08%, after the blue-chip index closed above 49,000 for the first time on Tuesday.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Another Record Day For S&amp;P 500</h2>Stocks climbed in the regular session as markets brushed aside concerns over&nbsp;the U.S. strike in Venezuela, which resulted in the deposition of President Nicolás Maduro. The Dow gained nearly 485 points, the S&amp;P 500 posted another record close, and the Nasdaq Composite rose about 0.7%. Nine of the S&amp;P 500’s 11 sectors finished higher, led by health care and technology.Mega-cap names remained in focus, with Amazon and Palantir each jumping over 3%. Data storage stocks, including Sandisk, Western Digital, and Seagate, were also among the index’s top performers.The&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SPY">SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF (SPY)</a>, which tracks the S&amp;P 500 Index, rose 0.6%, while the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/QQQ">Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ)</a> climbed 0.9%. The&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/DIA">SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust (DIA)</a> added about 1%.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Market Momentum Extends Into 2026</h2>Charlie Bilello, chief market strategist at Creative Planning,&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/charliebilello/status/2008704043427000553">noted on X</a> that the S&amp;P 500 ended Tuesday at an all-time high, its first of the new year, following 39 record closes in 2025 and 57 in 2024.The Kobeissi Letter&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/KobeissiLetter/status/2008717293241372922">highlighted on X</a> the scale of the technology-driven surge, noting that the S&amp;P 500 communications services sector has climbed 184% over the past three years, the strongest three-year gain on record. The move surpassed the previous high set during the dot-com era and has been driven by outsized gains in Meta and Alphabet. Since the 2022 market low, the sector has rallied nearly 200%, pushing it well above its 2000 peak.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Commodities React To Venezuela Shift&nbsp;</h2>In commodities, oil prices extended their decline after U.S. President Donald Trump said Venezuela would turn over as much as 50 million barrels of crude to the U.S., pushing crude toward $56 a barrel and Brent below $61.&nbsp;Gold eased after a sharp three-day rally that lifted prices more than 4%, as traders shifted focus from geopolitical tensions to upcoming U.S. economic data. Silver fell as much as 2.2% on Wednesday but has still rallied 12% so far this year.&nbsp;Metals also cooled after recent strength, with copper and nickel retreating from record highs, and the U.S. dollar index hovered near 98.60, with the 10-year U.S. yield slipping to around 4.16% after easing by about one basis point.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Asia Pulls Back After Sharp Run-Up</h2>Asian stocks traded lower on Wednesday, with markets in the region easing after a strong start to the year. Japanese shares led declines, falling about 1%, after China imposed export controls on items with potential military use, heightening tensions between China and Japan.A broad gauge of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan edged lower, while Australia’s resource-heavy index rose modestly as commodity stocks outperformed.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Events To Watch</h2>Investors are now turning to key U.S. economic releases, including ADP private payrolls, the ISM services index, job openings data, and factory orders. (MRNA) surged nearly 10% after Bank of America Global Research increased its price target on the stock.Meanwhile, Sandisk (SNDK) rose over 23%. Megacap technology stock Amazon (AMZN) also posted a climb of over 3.8%. Microchip Technology (MCHP) shares climbed over 10% after the company issued higher fiscal third-quarter revenue guidance.Nvidia’s (NVDA) stock was also in prime focus on Tuesday, rising about 0.7% on its new autonomous vehicle software launched at the 2026 CES global technology conference.OneStream, SoFi Technology, and Lockheed Martin were among the other stocks in focus.Meanwhile, the <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SPY">SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF</a> (SPY) was up 0.57% at the time of writing, <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/QQQ">Invesco QQQ Trust</a> (QQQ) gained 0.81% on Tuesday, and <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/DIA">SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust </a>(DIA) rose 0.9%. Dow Hits Record High Despite Venezuela Risk, Bolstered By Tech, Healthcare

The Dow futures rose over 0.9%, to reach a new all-time high of 49,704.00.

Three events could materially move markets this month,” the economist said.Firstly, Siegel stated that the possibility of another U.S. government shutdown is non-trivial, according to betting markets, but added that policymakers understand how damaging it could be for confidence.The second risk on Siegel’s mind this month is the announcement of the next Federal Reserve Chair. White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett and ex-Fed official Kevin Warsh are among the frontrunners for the position.“While I do not view any of the candidates as a problem, I see a Hassett appointment as putting modest upward pressure on long-term rates for perceptions of greater alignment with White House preferences for easier policy,” he said.The economist added that the third risk this month is the Supreme Court’s ruling on tariffs, which is likely in January.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Constructive Outlook On 2026</h2>Siegel maintained that he remains constructive on the outlook for the equity markets and the U.S. economy in 2026.The economist said that even as markets debate who will monetize the gains from increased productivity from the advent of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, investments in the sector remain robust. He added that productivity acceleration has benefited equity markets historically, even amid a change in the market leaders.He also added that the neutral policy rate is in the low-3% range, saying that the Fed should cut rates further. However, according to the CME FedWatch&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool</a>, the probability that the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will keep rates unchanged at its January meeting has risen to 83.9%, from 65.4% a month ago.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Trump On Tariff Collections</h2>On Monday, President Donald Trump&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/trump-600-billion-tariffs-ahead-of-supreme-court-decision/cmxMoQaR4bC">stated that</a> the U.S. will soon receive more than $600 billion in tariffs. He called the upcoming Supreme Court’s tariff decision “one of the most important ever” in the apex court’s history.While a date for the Supreme Court ruling on tariffs is not known yet, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated in a Fox Business&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/bessent-says-supreme-court-tariff-ruling-fed-chair-pick-expected-january">interview</a> last month that he expects the ruling to come in January.Meanwhile, U.S. equities were mixed in Tuesday’s pre-market trade. Wharton's Jeremy Siegel Sees Three Policy Risks In January That Could ‘Materially’ Move Markets

Siegel maintained that he remains constructive on the outlook for the equity markets and the U.S. economy in 2026.

My take: don’t read into it,” Munster said in a&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/munster_gene/status/2008336420356702351?s=46">X post</a>.He said demand continues to run “ahead of expectations” and projected “65% or more growth this year” for the company’s revenue. “Looking back at last year’s keynote, this year’s high-level comments were similar.”Muster has a long track record of influential calls on Apple, Big Tech, and emerging technologies like AI and autonomous vehicles.He went on to say that Nvidia’s announcements, including a partnership with Siemens, underscore how AI hardware has emerged to the forefront of AI innovation. Nvidia’s peers, AMD and Intel, also announced a slew of processors on Monday.Meanwhile, Nvidia executives told analysts on the sidelines of CES that demand for its H200 chips from China has remained strong, even as the company awaits approvals from both Washington and Beijing before sales can start, according to a Nikkei report."We do have demand ... [for H200] definitely from China," Colette Kress, Nvidia's chief financial officer, told analysts at a question-and-answer session in Las Vegas on Monday afternoon, while Huang added "demand [is] strong" when asked about the China market.On Stocktwits, the retail sentiment for Nvidia was ‘neutral’ as the premarket trading kicked off, down from ‘bullish’ a few hours earlier. NVDA rose nearly 40% last year. Although the performance was below some of its Magnificent 7 peers, analysts remain overwhelmingly bullish about the company.Currently, 60 of the 64 analysts covering the company have a ‘Buy’ or higher rating on the stock, according to Koyfin.
