Traders flagged unusual futures activity ahead of Trump’s announcement, including $1.5 billion in S&P futures and $580 million in oil contracts.

<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Gulf Arab producers have reduced production since they are unable to export via the strait.</li><li>Iranian missile and drone strikes have further harmed energy infrastructure in the Middle East.</li></ul>The oil futures market has not fully priced in the scale of the supply disruption caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Chevron (<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/CVX">CVX</a>) CEO Mike Wirth reportedly said.&nbsp;“There are very real, physical manifestations of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz that are working their way around the world and through the system that I don’t think are fully priced into the futures curves on oil,” Wirth said at S&amp;P Global’s CERAWeek conference here, according to a CNBC <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2026/03/23/chevron-ceo-oil-price-iran-war-strait-hormuz.html">report</a>.&nbsp;“We got a lot of oil and gas now that is not flowing into the market,” the Chevron CEO said. “There really is a difference in terms of physical supply this time versus prior incidents.”<h2 class="st-heading-2">Hormuz Route</h2>The Strait of Hormuz has been a point of key discussions as Iran’s blockade of the key trading route has forced U.S.’s hands as the Gulf nation has become successful in pushing crude oil prices higher globally. The route holds almost 20% of global oil and energy supplies.&nbsp;“The Hormuz Strait will have to be guarded and policed, as necessary, by other Nations who use it — The United States does not! If asked, we will help these Countries in their Hormuz efforts, but it shouldn’t be necessary once Iran’s threat is eradicated. Importantly, it will be an easy Military Operation for them,” Trump said in a past social media post.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Cut In Production</h2>Gulf Arab producers have reduced production since they are unable to export via the strait. Iranian missile and drone strikes have further harmed energy infrastructure in the Middle East. <ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Hawley said that FICO’s price increases are most damaging to the Americans who can least afford them.</li><li>FICO has characterized its historical pricing as “underpriced,” yet the company’s financial performance tells a different story, the letter said.&nbsp;</li></ul>Shares of Fair Isaac Corporation (FICO) fell nearly 6% on Monday after Republican Senator Josh Hawley in a letter said that it is launching an investigation into the company’s pricing practices for mortgage market services.&nbsp;The Republican Senator sent a letter to FICO on Monday announcing his intentions to start an investigation into the company's price increases for credit scores.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Details</h2>“As Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and as a member of the Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy, and Consumer Rights, I am investigating Fair Isaac Corporation’s pricing practices in the mortgage credit scoring market,” Hawley said as per the letter.&nbsp;FICO has characterized its historical pricing as “underpriced,” yet the company’s financial performance tells a different story. FICO’s total revenue reached nearly $2 billion in fiscal year 2025, with the Scores segment alone generating $1.17 billion at operating margins of approximately 88%, the letter said.&nbsp;Hawley further said that FICO’s price increases are most damaging to the Americans who can least afford them. “We investigate whether the charge is justified by competitive market forces or is instead an exercise of monopoly pricing power. An 88% operating margin and a compound annual growth rate of 100% in per-score pricing over five years are not hallmarks of a competitive market”.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">What Does FICO Do?</h2>FICO&nbsp;is an analytics software firm that creates its own FICO score which is used by&nbsp;a majority of top lenders in the U.S. to gauge the credit history and risk associated with credit lending towards their customers.&nbsp;Retail sentiment around FICO trended in ‘neutral’ territory amid ‘normal’ message volume&nbsp;at the time of writing. Shares in the company are down 37% so far in 2026.&nbsp;

Stock markets turned green after the announcement.<h2 class="st-heading-2">The China-Iran Parallels &nbsp;</h2>As per The Kobeissi Letter, a similar sequence of events unfolded in 2025 when the U.S. and China were engaged in trade talks. Trump had signaled a deal was in the works amid soaring yields, even as Beijing denied negotiations, much like Iran’s current response.
