$WRD VW reportedly favours Wayve, although no final contract is signed. That does not formally exclude WeRide, but I already viewed VW as a low-probability opportunity after the Bosch-Cariad alliance ended.

Is WeRide considered a risk on European roads, or is a Chinese supplier considered a political and data-security risk? Those are different questions. The report doesn’t awnser that.

Wayve carries execution risk too. Its OEM commitments are substantial, but production delivery and sustained customer performance still need proving. WeRide already has production ADAS with Bosch, a familiar partner to VW, although European testing does not yet establish readiness for European customers.

Going with Wayve seems a risky move from a capability perspective, but understandable if you’d want to cover all basis with the deal (including US, Europe and Japan).
