Microsoft on Tuesday announced the introduction of a new software called “Agent 365” that would provide users with a list of AI agents within a computer system.
The company said that firms worldwide are already deploying thousands of agents to automate routine tasks. “Keeping track of these agents — who created them, what they can access, and if they’re behaving safely — is crucial,” Microsoft said.
Microsoft noted that unmanaged agents can turn into invisible threats that leak data or take unauthorized action, undermining a company’s security, governance , and compliance framework.
Agent 365 is the control plane for agents that extends the existing infrastructure firms use for managing people, to agents, said Microsoft, adding that it equips agents with access to the same apps and protections, tailored to the agents’ needs, reducing time and effort spent integrating them into business processes.
ServiceNow (NOW) announced a set of new and forthcoming integrations with Microsoft, including an integration with Agent 365, that deliver agentic AI orchestration and governance capabilities for joint customers.
ServiceNow said that the companies will connect copilots, agents, and data across Microsoft 365 and the ServiceNow AI Platform to enable visibility, compliance, and control over AI agents.
Irina Nechaeva, general manager of identity product marketing at Microsoft, said that having these AI controls in place cannot be an afterthought.
“All of this needs to be happening together with the agentic innovation itself. So not just the agents, but also the right tools to control, monitor, protect, and make those agents more effective,” Nechaeva said.
“Agent 365 gives organizations a simple, secure way to bring agents under control, extending the same infrastructure, apps, and protections they already trust for users,” said Nirav Shah, corporate vice president, Microsoft Agent 365 at Microsoft.
