Microsoft Corp.(MSFT) and the National Football League (NFL) on Wednesday announced the extension of their longstanding technology partnership, focused on artificial intelligence.
The initiative will bring Microsoft’s AI tools, including Copilot and Azure AI, into virtually every layer of the NFL's operations, from the field to the front office. The collaboration aims to transform how NFL teams scout talent, analyze performance, and manage stadium operations.
Microsoft stock inched 0.5% lower on Wednesday morning. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment toward the shares remained in ‘bearish’ territory amid ‘low’ message volume levels.
Each of the NFL’s 32 clubs will now use upgraded Sideline Viewing Systems powered by over 2,500 Microsoft Surface Copilot+ PCs. Coaches and players will gain access to AI tools that can break down plays based on specific criteria.
“With Microsoft's AI technologies, including Copilot, there are tremendous opportunities to elevate the gameday experience for our clubs and deliver an even more compelling product to our fans,” said the NFL’s CIO, Gary Brantley.
Analysts in the booth can also use Microsoft 365 Copilot dashboards to identify patterns and make faster, more informed calls on personnel and snap counts. Microsoft is also integrating Copilot into tools used by game-day operations teams to track disruptions like weather delays and technical malfunctions.
Additionally, Azure AI video review will help clubs assess coaching techniques and player health during practice sessions. Recently, at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, team scouts used a new Azure AI Foundry-powered application to analyze more than 300 draft prospects.
Microsoft stock has gained over 20% year-to-date and over 19% in the last 12 months.
