Why Is Trump Interested In Greenland?
Explaining the significance, President Trump pointed to Greenland’s location – the world’s largest island lies between the Arctic and North America, making it well-placed for early warning systems in case of missile attacks.
“If the bad guys start shooting, it comes over Greenland,” he said in the interview.
President Trump stated that while negotiations are ongoing, the U.S. is discussing total access to Greenland with no end date or time limit.
What Is The Golden Dome?
The Golden Dome is a proposed multi-layer missile defence system that is intended to detect and destroy ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles.
The missile defence system works through a constellation of satellites equipped with sensors and space-based interceptors. “The Golden Dome will be capable of intercepting missiles even if they are launched from other sides of the world and even if they are launched from space,” President Trump said in May 2025, according to a CBS News report.
During the Fox Business interview, Trump also recalled that former President Ronald Reagan had the idea for a defense system a long time ago, but the technology wasn't available at the time. “The concept was great, but there was no technology. Now we have unbelievable technology… I mean, virtually 100%,” he said, referring to the Golden Dome.
