Last week, Meta also introduced its Muse Wonder models, designed to handle more complex personal and professional AI tasks.
Meta’s Upcoming Earnings Put AI Spending In Focus
Meta is scheduled to report third-quarter results after the closing bell on Wednesday. The company guided for third-quarter revenue of $61 billion to $64 billion. It also projected full-year capital expenditures, including principal payments on finance leases, of $130 billion to $145 billion. The index closed Friday at 7,659.44, down 0.1% for the month. Technology fell 7.25% over the period, while industrials slipped 0.5%. Nine of the 11 S&P 500 sectors were higher. The strongest gains came from defensive groups and energy. Consumer staples rose 9.1%, energy gained 8.8%, utilities advanced 6.4% and health care climbed 6.3%. Technology’s large weighting in the S&P 500 means its losses have offset gains elsewhere. The rotation suggests investors are favoring defensive businesses and energy exposure while reassessing expensive technology stocks. Procter & Gamble (PG) and Philip Morris International (PM) report this week, giving investors a fresh look at demand for consumer staples. The key question is whether chip stocks can recover without defensive sectors surrendering their gains. Oil prices, earnings and Treasury yields will help decide whether the market broadens out or the pressure on technology deepens.Read also: Elon Musk’s Roadster, Nvidia’s Space AI Push, Nadella’s Security Warning: Mag 7 Voices This WeekFor updates and corrections, email newsroom[at]stocktwits[dot]com.
