The only way we&#39;re not in a glut in 5 years is if lithium plunges even harder than I expect and it completely wipes out all investment for the next 2-3 years which will then cause a shortage by the end of the decade. But companies like SQM are intentionally flooding the market in order to make sure there is no shortage because a shortage would cause the EV market to move to alternative batteries which would then wipe out the whole industry.

The best case scenario long term for lithium producers is to flood the market. That&#39;s what SQMs management has been arguing for a long time and the government of Chile and the other largest producers want to keep lithium cheap in order to keep demand strong and ensure a long term market.

Companies like SQM can produce lithium at dirt cheap prices so cheap lithium doesn&#39;t make them unprofitable. For clay producers like LAC, there&#39;s no way to profit.

Then it floods the market and prices plunge... that plunge then causes all the miners to suffer massively and all investment dissappears.  Then we get another shortage in 2 years because nobody has been expanding supply. And the cycle repeats.

Now we&#39;re in a much more mature market where costs have collapsed and producers can profit at even lower prices than today, meaning the investment in supply won&#39;t stop and there won&#39;t be another shortage.... unless prices are SOOOOO bad that even the powerhouses like SQM and ALB can&#39;t make money
