This is much more than a midstream acquisition. Williams is making a large capital commitment to the proposition that Gulf Coast natural-gas demand will require materially greater Haynesville supply and transportation capacity late this decade. 
 
It&#39;s not the size of the deal that caught our attention, but the 3 Bcf/d of proposed incremental transportation capacity accompanying the deal. That scale implies Williams is not underwriting modest basin growth. It is positioning for a large increase in gas flows linked to LNG, power generation and industrial demand. 
 
For Comstock, this is an important external validation signal. Western Haynesville gas is only valuable at scale if sufficient gathering, treating, compression and long-haul transportation exist to connect production with premium Gulf Coast demand.

Does it really matter if supply always grows faster than demand? All these natural gas companies care about is the number of wells they can drill, not if the wells actually add to the bottom line.  They would rather drill more and profit less than drill less and profit more.

CRK’s Q2 volumes rose 16% sequentially, yet operating cash flow covered less than half of development spending. The real test is whether Western Haynesville can deliver lower costs, durable EURs and debt reduction—not simply more wells. 
 
It matters if these companies want to create shareholder value. When supply consistently outruns demand, prices weaken and drilling more wells can simply recycle capital without improving FCF per share. For CRK, the thesis works best with a sustained North American gas forward strip around $4–$5+—combined with better Western Haynesville capital efficiency and disciplined use of cash flow to reduce debt. More production alone is not enough.
