The US will go dark one day, but it&#39;ll struggle indefinitely from this point. From an engineering standpoint, we can literally call it planned obsolescence. 

However, the price of energy will continue to rise drastically over the next decade. I predict an average increase of 100% fully in 10 years for home energy. No need to mention inflation, declining home sales, capital return for supplying DCs over residential, future blackouts....that&#39;ll all come in time.

However,....

If you dont have solar in your accounts and on your dwellings, you have work cut out. The last thing you will want to be connected to and/or dependent on by 2040 is the US electric grid.
