HSBC has upgraded its stance on Indian equities from ‘neutral’ to ‘overweight, citing improved valuations and supportive domestic policies.According to HSBC analyst Herald Van Der Linde, the Indian market, which had underperformed globally since mid-September 2024, now appears attractive on a regional basis.The brokerage has set a target of 94,000 for the Sensex by 2026-end. The benchmark index closed below 82,000 on Wednesday.Why Did HSBC Upgrade Indian Equities?The upgrade is attributed to several factors: moderating growth expectations, easing inflation, and pro-growth domestic policies such as tax cuts and GST reforms. These measures are expected to bolster consumption and investor confidence.HSBC notes that earnings forecasts for 2025 have been revised downward, with consensus estimates falling to 12%, potentially easing further to 8%-9%. Despite this, valuations are no longer a concern, and foreign funds remain underexposed to India, suggesting potential for increased inflows.While global uncertainties persist, HSBC believes that India’s domestic-focused companies are well-positioned to weather external headwinds. Retail investors subscribed nearly six times their allocated portion, Non-Institutional Investors (NII) booked their portion 21 times, while Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIB) subscribed over three times their reserved quota.IPO DetailsGujarat-based transformer manufacturer Atlanta Electricals has launched an IPO to raise ₹400 crore through a fresh issue and ₹287.3 crore via an offer-for-sale by promoters, with a price band of ₹718-₹754 per share.Investors can bid for a minimum of 19 shares (₹14,326 at the upper band) per lot. The company holds over 12% market share in Italy and Mexico and has a growing presence in the U.S., the world’s largest orthopaedic market.The integrated business model of Citieffe, including R&amp;D, manufacturing, and sales, enables swifter product development and market introduction. Poly Medicure Acquires Italian Orthopaedics Firm For ₹324 Crore

Walmart-backed fintech company PhonePe has reportedly filed its draft initial public offering (IPO) documents via the confidential route with SEBI, BSE and NSE. The company is seeking to raise around ₹12,000 crore through an offer-for-sale (OFS) by its existing shareholders.Under this pre-filing approach, the company can submit its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) privately and solicit regulatory feedback before the public disclosure of sensitive financial information.Walmart, Tiger Global, and Microsoft are expected to participate in the OFS and could reportedly result in a combined dilution of nearly 10%. PhonePe has engaged major investment banks, including Kotak Mahindra Capital, JPMorgan, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley, to manage the offering.Financials In FocusPhonePe’s adjusted EBITDA (excluding ESOP costs) rose to ₹1,477 crore in FY25 from ₹652 crore a year earlier, while adjusted profit after taxes jumped to ₹630 crore from ₹197 crore.The company also reported its first positive adjusted EBIT of ₹117 crore and turned cash flow from operations positive at ₹1,202 crore.Last week, PhonePe received the final approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to operate as an online payment aggregator. In what could be a crucial signal for mending ties between India and the US, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Trump administration may be open to fixing the additional 25% tariff imposed on exports tied to India’s purchase of Russian oil.In an interview with NBC News, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington is working to address the “sanctions situation” with India regarding its Russian oil imports, even as the steep tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump remain in place.“We’ve already taken measures regarding India, but that’s something we hope to resolve,” Rubio noted, adding that President Trump is weighing additional steps in response to how the situation is evolving.In a separate interview with ABC News, Rubio confirmed that ongoing trade talks with India are heavily focused on the Russian oil issue.“We had meetings with them again yesterday, and it has to do with their purchase of Russian oil,” he said, adding that there has been “a lot of progress.”Rubio also criticized several European nations for failing to enforce tougher sanctions on Russia.However, Rubio did not say whether the two sides discussed the H-1B visa fee hike to $100,000 or Washington's demands that India open its agricultural and dairy sectors to U.S. companies.Issues over Russian oil importThe primary sticking point has been India’s purchase of heavily discounted Russian crude.
