  • Ric Edelman said Bitcoin could reach $1 million if global investors allocated 2% of their assets to it.
  • He said a 1% global allocation could push Bitcoin to a $500,000 target, which he shared with Strive CEO Matt Cole.
  • He urged advisors to focus on Bitcoin's potential portfolio diversification benefits rather than just its price appreciation.

Bitcoin (BTC) could reach $1 million if investors worldwide allocated just 2% of their assets to the cryptocurrency, Edelman Financial Engines founder Ric Edelman said, adding that broader adoption could drive significant upside.

Speaking on the Bitcoin Treasuries panel on Tuesday, Edelman said, "If the world that owns all of those assets just allocates 1% of their portfolio to Bitcoin, that's $500,000. If the world owns 2%, then it's a million."

Edelman said his outlook included the combined value of global assets, including stocks, bonds, real estate, gold, and oil. He emphasized that his investment horizon extended from 2030 to 2035, rather than focusing on Bitcoin's quarterly performance.

Edelman Questions Slow Bitcoin Adoption

Despite his outlook, the financial advisor questioned why most retail and institutional investors remained outside the Bitcoin market. "There is a messaging problem here. We have failed as a community to effectively get the messaging out to the investing public," he said.

He stated that financial advisors played a crucial role in encouraging Bitcoin adoption, because if they don’t understand it, “they can't recommend it to their client. If they can't recommend it, the client won't buy it.”

Edelman also said advisors should emphasize Bitcoin's potential portfolio diversification benefits rather than relying solely on projections of substantial price gains.

Edelman Backs Cole’s $500,000 Bitcoin Target

While Edelman emphasized Bitcoin's role in diversified portfolios, he also shared a longer-term price outlook, agreeing with Strive (ASST) CEO Matt Cole's prediction that Bitcoin could reach $500,000 by 2030. However, he said his reasoning differed from Cole's macroeconomic outlook.

“That's exactly my prediction as well,” he added, “500,000 by 2030. I get there in a different way," Edelman said.

While Cole based his forecast on expectations of a weaker U.S. dollar and favorable macroeconomic conditions, Edelman pointed to the potential for global investors to allocate a small portion of their portfolios to Bitcoin.

For Bitcoin to reach $500,000, the apex cryptocurrency would need to grow 510%. Bitcoin’s price traded at around $82,000 on Tuesday, largely flat over the past 24 hours.

On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around BTC dipped into the ‘bearish’ zone from the ‘neutral’ zone as chatter remained at ‘normal’ levels over the last day.

Bitcoin has fallen over 5% year to date, and is 34% below its record high of over $126,000 seen in October.
