Details Of The Contract

AST SpaceMobile has been selected as a prime contract awardee, allowing the company to compete for a wide range of orders in the future. This includes research, development, engineering, prototyping, and operations of critical Missile Defense Agency systems that support U.S. national security objectives.

“Being selected as a prime contract awardee for the MDA’s SHIELD program is a major validation of our unique, on-orbit, dual-use technology and our growing capabilities within the defense sector,” said Chris Ivory, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Government Business of AST SpaceMobile.

Ivory added that the company’s low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite architecture is inherently scalable, and that this SHIELD contract allows AST SpaceMobile to directly bid on future task orders.

He added that this will allow the company to quickly align its technology with the needs of the Department of War, also known as the Department of Defense, and other U.S. government entities.

What Does AST SpaceMobile Do?

AST SpaceMobile is a Midland, Texas-based company that is currently building a space-based cellular broadband network that can be accessed by current smartphones.

ASTS stock is up 39% year-to-date and 370% over the past 12 months.
