  • The company said the new patent enabled optimal capture of solar and wind energy in hybrid systems without the reduction in generation typically caused by component interference.
  • The U.S. patent adds to Beam's existing Chinese patent for the same technology, the company said.
  • Beam Global said this innovation was particularly vital for its autonomous drone recharging system and a streetlight replacement product.

Shares of Beam Global (BEEM) rose over 2% in premarket trading on Thursday after the clean energy company announced a newly granted U.S. patent for its hybrid solar and wind power system.

The company said it received a new patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its integrated wind and solar power generation system, a move that strengthens the company's intellectual property portfolio for hybrid renewable energy solutions, and thus its competitive moat in the fast-growing EV infrastructure market.

What Does The New Patent Cover?

U.S. Patent No. 12,573,851, titled "Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging System with Down-Sun Wind Turbine," covered Beam Global's tracking technology that enabled optimal solar and wind energy capture in hybrid systems without the reduction in generation typically caused by interference between components.

Beam added that the system included coordinated tracking that continuously oriented the solar panels toward the sun while keeping the wind turbine positioned down-sun and correctly oriented to maximize wind energy generation, among others.

The company said this innovation was particularly vital for its autonomous drone recharging system and a streetlight replacement product, powered by various generation sources.

Why This Matters For Investors?

The U.S. patent adds to Beam's existing Chinese patent for the same technology, further strengthening the company's global intellectual property portfolio.

Desmond Wheatley, Chief Executive Officer at Beam Global said that the patent "further cements and defends our position as a leader in the creation of innovative and robust sources of electricity at a time when demand for electricity is increasing, as is our understanding of the vulnerability of traditional sources."

This announcement also taps into conversations about energy security amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, pushing companies to pitch solutions that are less vulnerable to such disruptions.

“The current situation in Iran reminds us, yet again, how easily traditional energy infrastructure can be disrupted. Beam Global’s optimized energy generation systems are immune to remote or centralized disruption,” added Wheatley.
