Hiru Corp (HIRU), a seemingly ordinary water and ice production company based in Glendale, Arizona, with a market cap of under $8 million, has unexpectedly become the center of retail market attention.

After a severe 22% drop in share price in the previous session, retail investors have flocked to the stock. It's the most newly watched stock on Stocktwits today, and its following has risen by nearly 11% WoW to over 3,000 users.

Trading volumes in the stock are currently over 16 times their daily average of 9 million.

The driving force behind this surge is a company-wide overhaul. Hiru, in an SEC filing on Wednesday, said it is not only replacing its entire C-suite with a team led by Qatari businessman Khalid Nasser A.S. Al-Thani but also pivoting its business model.

The company is currently involved in mining operations in Africa, gold trading and processing in Dubai, and freight and warehouse services in the United States.

The new management team will evaluate these subsidiaries over the next 45 days to determine their strategic fit. Additionally, the company said it’s in the process of relocating its corporate headquarters.

Clearly, Hiru's ambition is to transform into a conglomerate, and the company’s rapid-fire changes have certainly captured retail investors' attention.

However, several Stocktwits users noted that it was essential to approach HIRU with caution, given its micro-cap status and the numerous uncertainties surrounding its strategic direction, which make it a potential high-risk investment.

The stock, which has gained over 300% in the past six months, trades over the counter, i.e. via a broker-dealer network instead of on a centralized exchange like the New York Stock Exchange.
