  • The approval marks the final phase before the start of public-facing services.
  • The ride service will be operated in the north-east Punggol region.
  • The company has collaborated with a local partner, ComfortDelGro, as part of its global expansion strategy.

Shares of autonomous mobility service provider Pony AI drew investor attention on Tuesday morning after the company received regulatory approval for its autonomous robotaxi service in Singapore.

The approval permits the company to begin by-invite rides in a collaboration with ComfortDelGro, its local partner in Singapore. The phase marks the last stage before Pony AI embarks on public-facing services in the region. The company first signed an MoU with ComfortDelGro in July 2024.

The by-invite service will operate on a 12-kilometer route in north-east Punggol. The company says the entire route can be completed in about 55 minutes and anticipates saving local residents 15 minutes of travel time compared to current public transport services.

Pony AI first announced its Singapore service deployment ambitions in September 2025; the Singapore project was followed by its autonomous mobility pilot in Guangzhou in March 2025.

Pony AI’s ‘Dual-Engine Strategy’

Pony AI is expanding its operations across China and other overseas markets. The company partners with local players to navigate regulatory approvals and deploy autonomous mobility services, which it calls “dual-engine strategy.”

“Singapore is an important step in Pony.ai's global commercialization strategy. Entering by-invite rides with ComfortDelGro moves this project into a more operational phase and brings our autonomous mobility technology closer to real daily commuting scenarios”, said Dr. James Peng, Chief Executive Officer of Pony AI.

The company aims to bring its Robotaxi model to more international markets. Pony AI says it has validated unit economics and the commercial aspects of this model. It aims to broaden its footprint in international markets while deepening its presence in the domestic market.

Expanding Footprint In Europe

Pony AI’s software is anticipated to be central to Bolt’s development of driverless ride-hailing across Europe. Bolt CEO Markus Villig confirmed the initial deployment of driverless rides in 2026, aiming to make fully autonomous trips available within a year of launch.

The service will first be rolled out with safety testing and validation before being offered in more European countries, according to a Reuters report.

Uber also teamed up with Pony AI and autonomous vehicle startup Verne. It plans to launch the first commercial robotaxi service in Europe, with operations starting in the Croatian capital, Zagreb.

As per the deal, Pony AI will support by providing autonomous driving technology, and Verne will act as fleet owner and manage daily operations.
