SMR Board Changes

NuScale Power said on Tuesday that Stuart A. Harshaw and Dale E. Klein had been added to its board on May 29, following their election at the company's Annual Meeting of Stockholders. The company’s board now comprises nine directors, eight of whom are independent.

Harshaw serves as President and CEO of Nickel Creek Platinum Corp., a Canadian mining exploration and development company, and as President of Stuart Harshaw Consulting. He brings more than 35 years of leadership experience in the mining industry, including extensive expertise in engineering, procurement, and construction models, the company said.

Klein is Professor Emeritus in Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin and brings more than 40 years of technical expertise and nuclear industry experience. He serves on nuclear oversight and advisory committees in the United Arab Emirates and Japan, and was previously the chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Defense Programs, as per the company.

NuScale, which designs and develops advanced Small Modular Reactor (SMR) nuclear power technology, is the only company to have received design certification from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for its SMR.

NuScale Attracts Interest From South Korea

Meanwhile, reports suggesting that South Korea is considering a possible investment in the company’s SMR program in Tennessee as part of its $200 billion investment commitment to the U.S. has invited fresh optimism for the stock.

South Korea is reportedly exploring NuScale’s technology for a proposed SMR project in Uljin.

Retail On SMR Stock

On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around SMR stock improved from ‘bullish’ to ‘extremely bullish’ territory over the past 24 hours amid ‘high’ message volumes.

One bullish user said, “South Korea has a strong reason to work with NuScale. Companies like Doosan Enerbility and Samsung C&T are already involved in the nuclear industry and could benefit from supplying equipment and construction services. Since South Korea would be investing in a U.S. project while also creating business opportunities for its own companies, a partnership could make strategic sense for both sides.”

Another bullish user highlighted the “strong close.”

SMR stock has declined more than 14% so far in 2026, but has posted three consecutive weeks in the green, adding more than 10% in June alone.
