Trump Announces He Had An ‘Excellent’ Call With Chinese President Xi Jinping, Says He Will Travel To China In April

President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that he had an “excellent” call with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump stated that the call was “long and thorough,” and added that he will make a trip to China in April.

“The relationship with China, and my personal relationship with President Xi, is an extremely good one, and we both realize how important it is to keep it that way,” President Trump said.

Trump Discusses Taiwan, Ukraine, And Iran With Xi

President Trump also stated that he discussed several geopolitical concerns with President Xi, including Taiwan, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the ongoing Iran situation.

Trump also stated that he spoke about China’s purchases of U.S. energy, airplane engine deliveries, and increasing soybean purchases to 25 million tons from the next season, up from 20 million tons currently.

“I believe that there will be many positive results achieved over the next three years of my Presidency having to do with President Xi, and the People’s Republic of China!” he said.

Xi Gives Great Importance To China-U.S. Relationship

Separately, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a readout of the conversation between the two heads of state, in which President Xi stated that he attaches great importance to the China-U.S. relationship.

“President Trump said that both the U.S. and China are great countries, and the U.S.-China relationship is by far the most important in the world,” the readout stated.

The Chinese government’s readout emphasized that Taiwan is Chinese territory and that it will never allow the island to be separated. “The U.S. must handle the issue of arms sales to Taiwan with prudence,” it said.

Meanwhile, U.S. equities were mixed in Wednesday morning’s trade. At the time of writing, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY), which tracks the S&P 500 index, was down by 0.48%, the Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (QQQ) fell 1.73%, while the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust (DIA) gained 0.6%. Retail sentiment around the S&P 500 ETF on Stocktwits was in the ‘bearish’ territory.
