Wall Street’s Take On Wendy’s Offer And Business

TD Cowen reiterated a ‘Hold’ rating on WEN, noting that taking the fast-food chain private under Trian's umbrella offers the operational flexibility needed to execute a multi-year turnaround. The firm expects no competing offers to emerge given Trian's existing large ownership stake and deep operational ties to the company.

On Monday, UBS lowered its price target for Wendy’s to $6.50 from $8 and kept a ‘Neutral’ rating, expecting sales and earnings to stay weak. The firm said Wendy’s plans to help franchise owners and attract more customers, but a lasting recovery could take time.

What Are WEN Retail Traders Saying

On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around the stock jumped to ‘extremely bullish’ from ‘neutral’. The stock recorded a 1,881% surge in message volume over the past week with a 0.5% gain in watchers.

A user said, “Higher and more offers to come. You Betcha. Just the beginning. I expect additional players in the space will most likely step in too. Swing the pullbacks.”

Another user said, “I think Peltz will offer $8.50 - $8.75 in a final negotiation Bid, but with the 33% Short interest, I believe it will squeeze to $10+  before reversing back down to $8.50 - $8.75 where the Bid is… So Hold On To Your Bootstraps…”

A third user hoped Wendy’s doesn't sell for “such a small amount.”
