Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. <ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Gold futures for February 2026 deliveries jumped 1% to $4,515.2 an ounce.</li><li>Silver futures for March 2026 deliveries were up 0.8% at $69.6 an ounce.</li><li>Silver, in particular, has rallied strongly in December, hitting new highs 11 times in the month.</li></ul>Precious metals are closing the year on a powerful note, as rising investor anxiety over policy, deficits, and inflation sent gold and silver surging to fresh all-time highs on Tuesday.Spot gold (XAUUSD) rose to $4,497.69 an ounce, while spot silver (XAGUSD), which has been on a record-breaking run in December, nearly breached the $70 mark for the first time. Yardeni noted that basic metals, which are closely tied to manufacturing, have lagged significantly.While central bank buying helped fuel gold’s breakout above $2,000 an ounce in early 2024, the surge in other precious metals points to broader investor unease. The firm warned that an overly stimulative mix of U.S. monetary and fiscal policy could pressure bond yields, prompting it to raise its year-end 2026 gold target to $6,000 an ounce.In an interview with CNBC-TV18 on Monday, Yardeni said that gold could climb up to $10,000 by the end of 2029.Earlier this month, J.P. Morgan Global Research forecast prices to average $5,055 an ounce by the final quarter of 2026, rising toward $5,400 an ounce by the end of 2027.&nbsp;“While this rally in gold has not, and will not, be linear, we believe the trends driving this rebasing higher in gold prices are not exhausted. The long-term trend of official reserve and investor diversification into gold has further to run. We expect gold demand to push prices toward $5,000/oz by year-end 2026,” said Natasha Kaneva, head of Global Commodities Strategy at J.P. It is on track to open at an all-time high.Retail sentiment on Stocktwits remained ‘bullish’ over the past 24 hours, amid ‘extremely high’ message volumes. In response, the military junta in the West African nation arrested four Barrick employees, issued an arrest warrant for former CEO Mark Bristow, and seized the Loulo and Gounkoto mines.The Canadian miner said earlier this week that all charges brought against Barrick, its affiliates, and employees will be dropped, and the legal steps to release the four detained Barrick employees will be undertaken. The company also said that Mali will hand back the mines to Barrick, and the miner will withdraw the arbitration claims currently pending in international courts.Separately, Bloomberg News reported that the company has agreed to a 244 billion CFA francs ($430 million) settlement with Mali to resolve the dispute. Under the settlement, Barrick would pay 144 billion CFA francs within six days of signing the agreement with Mali’s government, the report stated. The Fourmile project in Nevada is one of the most significant gold discoveries in recent years.The brokerage also noted that the current valuation does not fully reflect Barrick’s potential, as the company moves through its leadership reshuffle and potentially refocuses its strategic priorities. According to a Bloomberg News <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-11-06/us-initial-jobless-claims-rose-last-week-state-data-suggest">report</a> citing state filings, applications for U.S. unemployment benefits rose last week compared with the previous week. Policymakers and markets have relied on unofficial data to gauge the job market, as the Labor Department has not been able to publish the data due to the government shutdown.U.S. President Donald Trump also floated a $2,000 dividend for all except high-income residents after touting the successes of the administration’s tariffs.
