Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Fidelity National Financial (FNF) stock rose 1.3% in aftermarket trade as the company’s fourth-quarter earnings topped Wall Street’s estimates.According to FinChat data, the company reported adjusted earnings of $366 million, or $1.34 per share, while analysts, on average, expected it to post earnings of $1.21 per share.It also reported a net income of $450 million, or $1.65 per share, for the three months ended Dec. 31, compared with a loss of $69 million, or $0.25 per share.Fidelity National primarily provides title insurance and settlement services to the real estate and mortgage industries.The Jacksonville, Florida-based company’s fourth-quarter revenue of $3.62 billion topped Wall Street’s estimated $3.33 billion.The company said revenue at its Titles segment, which contains title insurance underwriters and related businesses, rose to $2 billion, from $1.7 billion last year.Its direct title premiums increased by 28% to $625 million, while agency title premiums grew 27% to $787 million.Revenue at its unit F&amp;G, which provides insurance solutions to retail annuity and life customers, remained flat compared to last year. Fidelity National Financial Stock Gains Aftermarket On Upbeat Q4 Profit, Retail Stays Bearish

The Jacksonville, Florida-based company’s fourth-quarter revenue of $3.62 billion topped Wall Street’s estimated $3.33 billion.

Carlyle Group Stock Slips After Q4 Profit Miss: Retail Remains Neutral

The company’s fee-earning assets under management (AUM) fell by 1% to $304 billion compared with last year.

Shares of department store Macy’s Inc. ($M) dropped 8% on Monday after the company lowered its sales outlook for its fourth-quarter, dampening retail sentiment.It now expects its net sales to come in between $7.8 billion to $8 billion, slightly below its previous range.The company now expects fourth-quarter 2024 adjusted diluted earnings per share to be in-line with its previously issued range of $1.40 to $1.65​​Macy’s go-forward business saw quarter-to-date comparable sales growth, with Macy’s First 50 locations and luxury retailers Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury seeing positive comparable sales trends, the company said. Macy's Stock Dips After Lower Sales Outlook: Retail Mood Sours

Department store Macy’s Inc. ($M) on Thursday confirmed the closure of 66 Macy’s store locations, dampening retail sentiment. &nbsp; The store closures are part of what the company termed its “bold new chapter” strategy, aimed at returning the company to “sustainable, profitable sales growth,” the company said in a statement. Macy’s plans to shutter about 150 “underproductive stores” over a three-year period, while investing in its 350 “go-forward” Macy’s locations through fiscal 2026, it said.&nbsp; At least nine stores in the New York region and nine in California are included in the list of closed stores, according to the statement. Retail sentiment on Stocktwits turned ‘bearish’ from ‘bullish’ last week. Going forward in 2025, the company believes it is “well-positioned” to build momentum with a stronger store fleet through more locations nationwide and through its digital channels, according to the statement. Shares of diversified insurance services provider Kemper Corp. have risen 2.2% in the past week, with the firm receiving a price target revision from analyst firm Raymond James on Thursday, lifting retail sentiment.Raymond James raised the firm's price target to $82 from $75 with a Strong Buy rating as part of its 2025 outlook note for the insurance firm, the Fly.com reported.According to the firm, the near-term outlook of increasingly stable inflationary pressures, economic growth, and slowing price increases in the property and casualty industry will temper organic revenue growth rates for most companies over the next 24 months.The firm also expects most companies to continue to report elevated returns despite potential negative near-term pricing headlines.Retail sentiment on Stocktwits was ‘extremely bullish’ compared to ‘bullish’ a month ago.
