Distributed Exchange Through the use of its intermediary currency Lumens (XLM), a user can send any currency that they own to anyone else in a different currency.  For instance, if Joe wanted to send USD to Mary using her EUR, an offer is submitted to the distributed exchange selling USD for EUR. This submitted offer forms is known as an order book. The network will use the order book to find the best exchange rate for the transaction in-order to minimize the fee paid by a user.  This multi-currency transaction is possible because of "Anchors". Anchors are trusted entities that hold people’s deposits and can issue credit. In essence, Anchors serves as the bridge between different currencies and the Stellar network.  Lumens (XLM) Lumens are the native asset (digital currency) that exist on the Stellar network that helps to facilitate multi-currency transactions and prevent spams. For multi-currency transactions, XLM is the digital intermediary that allows for such a transaction to occur at a low cost.  In-order to prevent DoS attacks (aka spams) that would inevitably occur on the Stellar network, a small fee of 0.00001 XLM is associated with every transaction that occurs on the network. This fee is small enough so it does not significantly affect the cost of transaction, but large enough so it dissuades bad actors from spamming the network.   Prior to Protocol 12, Stellar had a built-in inflation mechanism conceived to allow account holders to collectively direct inflation-generated lumens toward projects built on Stellar.  As the network evolved and grew, it became increasingly clear that inflation wasn’t working as intended — account holders either didn’t set their inflation destination or joined inflation pools to claim the inflation themselves, and the operational costs associated with inflation payments continued to rise — and so a protocol change to disable inflation was proposed, implemented, voted on by validators, and ultimately adopted as part of a network upgrade. U.S. stocks appear set for a positive opening on Thursday after the Federal Reserve’s dot plot projections pointed to the possibility of two more rate cuts in 2025.On Wednesday, the central bank cut the key rate by&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/default/equity/fed-cuts-rates-by-25-basis-points-september-fomc-meeting/chDGxvqRd6u">25 basis points</a> and highlighted labor market weakness while noting that “job gains have slowed.” This was the Fed’s first interest rate cut in 2025.While Dow Jones futures were up 0.65% at the time of writing, the S&amp;P 500 futures rose 0.79%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100’s futures surged 0.98%. Novo Nordisk’s U.S.-listed shares rose after-hours on Wednesday after the Danish drugmaker said its new Wegovy pill helped people lose about as much weight as the weekly shot.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/NVO">Novo’s shares</a> jumped 3.5% to $60.26 in after-hours trading on Wednesday, after closing up 1.8% at $58.20 during the regular session, marking their fourth straight day of gains.The daily pill has already been sent to U.S. regulators for approval as a long-term weight-loss treatment, with a decision expected by the end of the year. If cleared, it would be the first obesity pill of its kind, and Novo said production is already underway at its U.S. plants.In a year-long study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, participants who took the pill lost an average of nearly 17% of their body weight. By contrast, those given a placebo lost less than 3%. More than one in three participants managed to lose a fifth of their body weight or more.Even when accounting for people who didn’t stick strictly to the treatment plan, those on the Wegovy pill still lost an average of 13.6% of their weight versus 2.2% for the placebo, with nearly a third hitting the 20% weight-loss mark.&nbsp;Novo said the pill also improved cardiovascular risk factors and patients’ ability to carry out daily activities such as walking, bending, and standing. Safety was consistent with injectable Wegovy, with gastrointestinal side effects most common.At the same time, competition is intensifying. Eli Lilly announced on Wednesday that its&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/eli-lilly-says-its-obesity-pill-topped-novo-nordisks-oral-drug-in-late-stage-diabetes-trial/chDGpSDRd6X">experimental oral weight-loss drug, Orforglipron,</a> was found to be superior to Novo’s oral semaglutide in a head-to-head late-stage trial involving 1,698 adults with type 2 diabetes.The trial compared 12 mg and 36 mg doses of Orforglipron with 7 mg and 14 mg doses of oral semaglutide. Novo Nordisk Stock Jumps After-Hours On Wegovy Pill Breakthrough As Weight-Loss War With Eli Lilly Heats Up

The Danish drugmaker has already filed the once-daily pill with U.S. regulators, aiming for the first FDA-approved oral GLP-1 treatment for obesity. 

Eli Lilly and Company (LLY) stated on Wednesday that its oral weight-loss drug was found to be superior to its rival Novo Nordisk’s (NVO) oral Semaglutide in a head-to-head late-stage trial.The study evaluated the safety and efficacy of Lilly’s Orforglipron in 1,698 adults with type 2 diabetes as compared to oral Semaglutide. At 52 weeks, Orforglipron met the primary as well as secondary endpoints across each dose comparison vs. oral Semaglutide, delivering greater improvements in average blood sugar levels and weight, the company <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://investor.lilly.com/news-releases/news-release-details/lillys-oral-glp-1-orforglipron-superior-oral-semaglutide-head">said</a>.On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/LLY">LLY stock</a> stayed within the ‘bearish’ territory over the past 24 hours, while message volume stayed at ‘low’ levels.Kenneth Custer, executive vice president and president of Lilly Cardiometabolic Health, said that in the trial, Orforglipron outperformed both doses of oral Semaglutide in reducing blood glucose levels. “At the highest dose, Orforglipron helped nearly three times as many participants reach near-normal blood sugar versus the highest dose of oral Semaglutide,” he said, while adding that head-to-head trials are a “gold standard for comparing potential treatments."The trial compared 12 mg and 36 mg of Orforglipron with 7 mg and 14 mg of oral Semaglutide. Orforglipron lowered blood glucose levels by as much as 2.2% compared to 1.4% with the highest dose of oral Semaglutide at 52 weeks. Notably, 37.1% of participants taking the highest dose of Orforglipron achieved a blood glucose level lower than 5.7% compared to 12.5% taking the highest dose of oral Semaglutide, Lilly said.Furthermore, participants taking Lilly’s drug achieved as much as a 9.2% reduction in weight from baseline, compared to 5.3% with oral Semaglutide, the company said. Orforglipron also showed clinically meaningful improvements across key cardiovascular risk factors, it added.Treatment discontinuation rates due to adverse events, however, were higher in the Orforglipron population, though the study was not powered to compare the safety and tolerability of Orforglipron and oral Semaglutide.Treatment discontinuation rates due to adverse events were 8.7% for 12 mg Orforglipron and 9.7% for 36 mg Orforglipron, as compared to 4.5% for 7 mg oral Semaglutide and 4.9% for 14 mg oral Semaglutide, Lilly said.The company expects to submit applications for Orforglipron for the treatment of type 2 diabetes to global regulatory agencies in 2026. Eli Lilly Says Its Obesity Pill Topped Novo Nordisk’s Oral Drug In Late-Stage Diabetes Trial

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has sent a letter to Novo Nordisk (NVO) CEO Maziar Mike Doustdar regarding the company’s promotional communication featuring Oprah Winfrey, alleging that the video is false or misleading.The video originally appeared on ABC as a Primetime Oprah Special on March 18, 2024. It also subsequently appeared on Hulu. The video is a 42-minute special program hosted by Oprah Winfrey, featuring patient testimonials from individuals who struggle with obesity and excessive weight, including those who have used Novo’s Wegovy, Ozempic, or Victoza.The FDA <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.fda.gov/inspections-compliance-enforcement-and-criminal-investigations/warning-letters/novo-nordisk-inc-716495-09092025">alleged</a> in a letter dated September 9 that the video misbranded Novo’s Wegovy, Ozempic, and Victoza, making its distribution violative. The video was also not submitted at the time of initial dissemination or publication as required by law, the agency said.“These violations are concerning from a public health perspective because the promotional communication creates a misleading impression regarding the safety of Wegovy, Ozempic, and Victoza, which are drugs with multiple serious, potentially life-threatening risks,” the agency said.The FDA also noted that obesity and type 2 diabetes are significant public health concerns in the U.S., and consumers who seek medical treatment for these conditions should receive truthful and nonmisleading information regarding the serious risks associated with the use of the drugs. While Novo’s Wegovy is used for weight management, its Ozempic and Victoza are used to treat type 2 diabetes.The FDA said that several advisory comments dated as long back as 2010 addressed draft promotional communications for Victoza with certain similarities to the aforementioned video. The agency expressed concerns that <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/NVO">Novo</a> is promoting the three drugs in a manner that fails to present the serious risks of these drug products in a truthful and nonmisleading manner, despite the FDA’s prior comments.While the video includes numerous representations of the benefits of Wegovy, Ozempic, and Victoza made by representatives of Novo Nordisk, it omits important risk information or minimizes the risks associated with these drug products, the FDA said. Only four minutes in total were devoted to the important risks associated with GLP-1 drugs, such as Wegovy, the FDA said.The video also omits reference to how the drugs are contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of Medullary Thyroid Cancer or in patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2, it added. Novo Nordisk (NVO) announced on Tuesday that its new obesity treatment, Cagrilintide, reduced body weight by 11.8% after 68 weeks in a late-stage study.The company <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.novonordisk.com/content/nncorp/global/en/news-and-media/news-and-ir-materials/news-details.html?id=916427">reported</a> an average weight loss of 12.5 kg, compared to 2.5 kg with the placebo, in the trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of once-weekly Cagrilintide 2.4 mg monotherapy, plus lifestyle intervention, for adults with obesity or overweight and a weight-related comorbidity without diabetes. The above levels of weight reduction were observed in participants who adhered to the treatment. The new drug mimics the naturally occurring hormone amylin that helps control blood glucose levels and appetite by slowing gastric emptying, reducing glucagon secretion, and promoting satiety.The company also stated that approximately one in three participants receiving Cagrilintide achieved 15% or more weight loss, compared to approximately one in 20 participants receiving a placebo, when patients adhered to the treatment.Novo stated that the drug was well-tolerated, while adding that the most common side effects were gastrointestinal, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and constipation.
