With a fixed supply cap of 21 million coins and programmatic halvings every four years that reduce miner rewards, Bitcoin is designed as a deflationary digital asset often called "digital gold." Its value stems from solving the double-spending problem without trusted intermediaries, creating the first truly scarce digital asset with censorship resistance and permissionless access that no government, corporation, or individual can control. Transactions are grouped into blocks added approximately every 10 minutes through mining, where specialized computers compete to solve complex mathematical puzzles.   Bitcoin has achieved mainstream adoption through multiple vectors. The January 2024 SEC approval of 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs opened Bitcoin investment to traditional finance participants, and corporations like Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) are using Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset to protect against currency debasement, offering MSTR holders amplified exposure to Bitcoin.   The Bitcoin ecosystem continues to evolve with innovations like Ordinals, which emerged in January 2023 to enable NFT-like functionality directly on Bitcoin, and BRC-20 tokens, an experimental standard for creating fungible tokens using Ordinal inscriptions. BTCFi (Bitcoin Finance) represents emerging financial applications extending beyond Bitcoin's traditional role, with protocols like Babylon allowing Bitcoin holders to stake BTC to secure Proof of Stake chains.

To keep transaction fees low and the network running indefinitely, Dogecoin features an uncapped supply where new coins are added forever. In a major regulatory milestone in March 2026, a joint SEC and CFTC framework officially classified Dogecoin as a digital commodity, placing it in the same asset category as gold or oil.

However, HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon reportedly said no selection has been finalized and that the agency is still evaluating candidates.<h2 class="st-heading-2">CAPR Awaits Key FDA Ruling On DMD Therapy</h2>The development comes as Capricor awaits an FDA decision on Deramiocel, its investigational therapy for DMD, a rare genetic condition that causes progressive muscle weakness in children, expected by Aug. 22.The FDA resumed review of Deramiocel last month after issuing a Complete Response Letter (CRL) in July 2025, which indicated earlier that the agency could not approve the drug in its current form and typically requests additional data. Capricor’s resubmission included Phase 3 Hope-3 trial results showing 54% slower deterioration in upper-limb function and 91% slowing of cardiac disease progression, both statistically significant compared with placebo.Deramiocel consists of donor-derived cardiac cells, which reduces inflammation linked to muscle degeneration in DMD.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Prasad Exit Seen As Positive For Biotech Approvals</h2>The CBER leadership opening follows the departure this month of outgoing director Vinay Prasad, whose tenure drew criticism from the biotech industry over regulatory decisions affecting rare-disease therapies.Prasad’s exit news lifted several biotech stocks last month, with BMO Capital Markets calling the change “a sigh of relief” for the sector and saying it could improve approval prospects for multiple companies developing advanced therapies.During his tenure, Prasad was involved in disputes with companies, including Sarepta Therapeutics, over gene-therapy reviews and disagreements with UniQure and Regenxbio.
