$SRZN Regeneron hired a very interesting person today with Hatice Nida Sen. She was formerly at Sanofi building their ophthalmology franchise and beforehand she was at J&J working together with Daniel Chao who is our VP. At Sanofi she was also responsible for external innovation. She was the board observer at 2 companies: Character Biosciences: GA/AMD precision-medicine pipeline Memento Medicines: Tie2 agonist + VEGF inhibitor bispecific antibody for nAMD/DME She left these boards to be able to join Regeneron. So Regeneron just hired the perfect person to fill up their empty ophthalmology pipeline and she has experience with VEGF combination drugs.

$SRZN i think that is a potential timeline. And getting final bids before Brunello results could make a lot of sense if we consider that there will not be any data about retinal reperfusion in the Brunello data package that they will publish on October 10 at AAO. That means even after Merck publishes some data at AAO there will still be an information advantage for Merck afterwards which could complicate getting the best bids. And it is not even sure if Merck will present any data at AAO because they could still decide against publishing the data there. If Surrozen wants to have 1 acquirer locked in beforehand also because of the second tranche then this makes sense:

$SRZN today at the Morgan Stanley conference Parker and Chao presented so that means we had Williams and Maleki at Cantor and now these two. If they all stayed in New York for the whole time then we have kinda the whole management there for 7 days. A lot can happen in New York with Regeneron and Merck presenting at the same conferences and Roche and BI could surely also join. That is the perfect place to have final meetings before a buyout announcement.

Guggenheim analyst Yatin Suneja highlighted Surrozen as a top pick in biotechnology, citing the company’s progress in developing treatments for serious eye diseases and several upcoming clinical and regulatory catalysts. Surrozen recently submitted an Investigational New Drug application for SZN-8141, a bispecific therapy combining Wnt agonism with an anti-VEGF component for diabetic macular edema. Approval would trigger the second $98.4 million tranche of the company’s 2025 financing, bringing total funding to $175 million and supporting the Phase Ib/IIa DUET study and a Phase I trial of SZN-8143. Guggenheim expects the IND process to advance within the next 30 days, with the DUET study targeted to begin before the end of 2026. Investor attention is also focused on Merck’s BRUNELLO study, involving 984 patients with diabetic macular edema, with results expected around the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in October. $SRZN
