Airtel, Tata firms eye Vi-like AGR relief
Mumbai: Telecom operators including Bharti Airtel and two Tata group units are considering a collective representation to the government seeking equitable treatment on adjusted gross revenue (AGR) liabilities, after the government granted a 10-year debt holiday to Vodafone Idea (Vi), said people with knowledge of the matter.Relief to one company has prompted operators to explore coordinated engagement with the government, with legal options also under review, they said. “We are evaluating multiple routes, including a collective approach to the government, but payments will not commence unless there is uniform treatment across companies,” said one of the executives cited.Tata Teleservices (TTSL) and Tata Teleservices Maharashtra (TTML) together have the thirdlargest AGR liabilities of `19,259 crore. Bharti Airtel faces AGR liabilities of `48,103 crore. Repayments for both are set to begin this March. In contrast, Vi’s dues of `87,695 crore were frozen by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) until 2035.
