  Smaller and regional banks need to keep merging to get larger.  Increased capital requirements make it more expensive for smaller banks to operate independently. Plus heightened regulatory oversight increases operational costs for smaller banks!

@Annie_Preferred Compare their P/E with the industry or $JPM and you will see their prices are super-inflated (more than 30% than the $JPM). Big banks do not want to buy them at these prices, they will buy/absorb them when they are almost bankrupt (see First Republic). Better sell them (if you can, the volume is very low) at these record prices and wait for another drop.
