Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense.  XRP by Ripple price can be found on this page alongside the market capitalization and additional stats.

I got back very late last night from New York. Of course, I was there to attend the @Stocktwits Cashtag Awards ceremony on Wednesday night. 
 
If you could grant me the liberty of posting a few paragraphs below, there were three things I wanted to share about the event (btw, if you aren&#39;t interested, please feel free to stop reading...I don&#39;t want this post to bother anyone not interested): 
 
1) Attached is an image of the award which came with a remote where you can light up the award in different colors. 
 
The reason I wanted to post on image of the award is because, even though the award has my user name on it, I really believe it belongs to everyone in the Stocktwits community. Without all the great people on this site that are willing to learn and share information, their would be no &quot;Stocktwits Community Member of the Year.&#39;  
 
While the award will sit on my desk, I want everyone to know that I don&#39;t see it as a symbol of my own excellence but as a reminder of the wonderful people I have come to know through Stocktwits who have helped me learn and grow as an individual. 
 
 2) While in New York, I did have the privilege of meeting a few people from the site in person. I always find it interesting that in today&#39;s world you can build deep, online relationships and never have the opportunity to meet someone in flesh. 
 
Specifically, I got to spend time with a number of great people from the staff of Stocktwits as well as a few members. Among them were @gpaisa (another &#39;Community Member of the Year&#39; award nominee that was just as deserving of the award), @PhilPearlman1 (that guy has great, positive energy) and @HostileCharts (whose arms are as big as my legs). 
 
I also had the privilege of doing a podcast from the NY studio with @gpaisa, @holdingbags and @JFDI. Folks, those guys know their stuff. If you don&#39;t already, I highly suggest you follow them and watch their weekly podcast. 
 
3) The day following the event, I had one of my bucket list items fulfilled when, to my shock and amazement, I was followed by @WallStJesus on Stocktwits. I had to check to make sure my eyes weren&#39;t deceiving me since that guy is a true legend on this site. I don&#39;t know if he was at the event or not but if he was I would have loved to shake his hand. I assume most of you already follow him but, if by chance you don&#39;t follow him, I highly suggest doing so ASAP. 
 
Thanks again to everyone (especially @howardlindzon and @Maxgol) for making my time in NY so special. I am truly grateful for everything I have received from this wonderful community.

Okay, one last post regarding the re-shared post below (I promise).  Two things...both of which are apologies: 
 
1) I made the error of posting a copycat account in my original post below. That was a rookie move and I am embarrassed that I have to admit it. The person I met at the event was the real @ppearlman not the copycat account I posted previously. I highly recommend following the real account and not the one I posted in the original post. My sincerest apologies to the real Phil Pearlman. 
 
Btw, this is just confirmation of what I always tell people that I am just a guy and I make mistakes just like everyone else. So, as always, don&#39;t follow what I do with my trading unless you are aggressively managing your trades and are willing to admit quickly when you are wrong. I have to do it all the time to prevent big drawdowns when a set-up isn&#39;t working for me. I had to learn that from more experienced traders and it is, IMHO, critical to success if you are an active trader. 
 
2) There is one more person I forget to mention that I met at the event who was tremendously gracious and left a very favorable impression on me. That person is @DekmarTrades. I actually became aware of Sean on X and I reached out to him prior to the event to see if he was willing to meet in person.  
 
I assumed, like most people, Sean was going to ghost me but much to my surprise he did not. He came up to me at the event and introduced himself and thanked me for reaching out. I am hoping to do some streaming work with Sean in the future as he has offered to help an old man like me learn how to become more visible on the Internet. I am pretty sure Sean knows he will be helping an old man since, unlike Michael Jordan, my head is bald not by choice. However, even if he doesn&#39;t, I am going to hold Sean to his word.
