Bitcoin is the first successful internet money based on peer-to-peer technology; whereby no central bank or authority is involved in the transaction and production of the Bitcoin currency. It was created by an anonymous individual/group under the name, Satoshi Nakamoto. The source code is available publicly as an open source project, anybody can look at it and be part of the developmental process.  Bitcoin is changing the way we see money as we speak. The idea was to produce a means of exchange, independent of any central authority, that could be transferred electronically in a secure, verifiable and immutable way. It is a decentralized peer-to-peer internet currency making mobile payment easy, very low transaction fees, protects your identity, and it works anywhere all the time with no central authority and banks.  Bitcoin is designed to have only 21 million BTC ever created, thus making it a deflationary currency. Bitcoin uses the SHA-256 hashing algorithm with an average transaction confirmation time of 10 minutes. Miners today are mining Bitcoin using ASIC chip dedicated to only mining Bitcoin, and the hash rate has shot up to peta hashes.  Being the first successful online cryptography currency, Bitcoin has inspired other alternative currencies such as Litecoin, Peercoin, Primecoin, and so on.  The cryptocurrency then took off with the innovation of the turing-complete smart contract by Ethereum which led to the development of other amazing projects such as EOS, Tron, and even crypto-collectibles such as CryptoKitties.

Bitcoin is experiencing volatility, driven by concerns around potential tariff implications and broader market sentiment. Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Payments Giant Mastercard (MA) and the U.S. crypto exchange Coinbase (COIN) have reportedly held advanced discussions with UK-based stablecoin firm BVNK for a potential takeover.According to a Fortune <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://fortune.com/crypto/2025/10/09/bvnk-acquisition-coinbase-mastercard-stablecoins/">report</a>, citing sources familiar with the matter, terms and the winning bidder haven’t been finalized, but the sale price is in the range of $1.5 billion to $2.5 billion. The report cautioned that the talks may not result in a final deal, but at present, Coinbase appears to be at an advantage over Mastercard.According to the report, BVNK enables companies to utilize stablecoins for customer transactions, cross-border payments, global treasuries, and other areas. In December, BVNK raised $50 million in a funding round, which valued the startup at about $750 million. Haun Ventures led the fundraising, with participation from Coinbase and Tiger Global. Earlier this week, the company also got the backing of Citigroup’s investment arm.Mastercard investors were spooked after a landmark stablecoin legislation advanced in Congress. Digital tokens, typically linked one-to-one with the dollar, enable consumers to pay merchants directly from their cryptocurrency wallets. This method bypasses traditional banking and card networks, raising concerns about Mastercard and its peers. The stage is set for a significant Bitcoin rally. Between the robust historical performance of October and November, the new regulatory regime of the Trump Administration, and the stimulative effect of interest rate cuts, Bitcoin is full of bullish tailwinds. 

Visa (V) announced on Tuesday that it will launch a stablecoin pre-funding pilot through Visa Direct, allowing businesses to use stablecoins instead of fiat to cover payouts.&nbsp;Visa stated it treats those stablecoins as “money in the bank,” making funds available for payout. This means that Visa treats stablecoins as cash equivalents for settlement and payouts, which helps reduce the need for capital lockups in multiple local currencies. The new initiative is primarily aimed at banks, remitters, and financial institutions that need faster, more flexible ways to manage liquidity across borders.Visa said it is working with select partners that meet the pilot criteria and plans to expand the pilot in 2026.&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/V">Visa’s stock</a> was up as much as 1.4% in pre-market trade. Visa Treats Stablecoins As ‘Money In the Bank’ In New Payout Pilot

The new pre-funding pilot will allow businesses to use stablecoins instead of fiat to cover payouts. 

Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller on Monday voiced strong support for stablecoins, emphasizing their potential to improve efficiency in payments while calling for “right-sized” regulation to ensure safety and stability.&nbsp;“If stablecoins present a lower cost alternative to consumers and businesses, I am all for it,” Waller said. “Stablecoins are simply another choice available to consumers and businesses,” he added, noting that stablecoins should coexist with cash, bank deposits, and other electronic money forms, provided they meet standards for safety and transparency.Speaking at the Silos conference, Waller highlighted two models he believes could guide the adoption of stablecoins in the U.S. financial system. The first model he outlined involves tokenized deposits, in which banks represent traditional deposit liabilities on a blockchain for wholesale or cross-border transactions. Waller said this approach could enhance settlement efficiency while retaining regulatory guardrails.The second model he pitched was&nbsp; the “stablecoin sandwich,” in which fiat currency is converted to a stablecoin, transferred across borders, and then converted back into local currency at the destination. This method, Waller said, could reduce costs and processing times for international payments, particularly remittances, without compromising security.Shares of Circle (<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/CRCL">CRCL</a>), issuer of the second-largest stablecoin USD Coin (USDC), jumped as much as 8.3% in the morning trade. Shares of PayPal (PYPL), which announced its stablecoin, PayPal USD (PYUSD), in August, rose by more than 4%. Top stablecoin issuer Tether Holdings (USDT) is reportedly in discussions with investors to raise up to $20 billion, which could make it one of the world's most valuable private companies.According to a Bloomberg News <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-09-23/crypto-giant-tether-seeks-500-billion-valuation-in-major-raise">report</a>, the El Salvador-based firm is planning to raise between $15 billion and $20 billion in exchange for a roughly 3% stake through a private placement. The report stated that these are the top-end targets, and eventual numbers could be significantly lower. However, these talks are in their preliminary stages, and the details are subject to change.The offering will involve new equity rather than existing investors selling their stakes, and Cantor Fitzgerald is acting as the lead adviser for the firm, the report added.If the firm manages to raise the money at the discussed levels, it will put it in the league with tech giants OpenAI and SpaceX, according to the report. Circle, the U.S.-based stablecoin issuer, is currently valued at over $30 billion. According to the report, potential investors have been given access to a data room over the past few weeks to determine whether to participate in the new fundraising round. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year.“Tether is evaluating a raise from a selected group of high-profile key investors, to maximize the scale of the Company's strategy across all existing and new business lines,” CEO Paolo Ardoino said in a post on X.Tether’s USDT token is pegged to the U.S. dollar, with a market value of about $172 billion. Circle’s USDC stablecoin is worth about $74 billion. The company reportedly logged $4.9 billion in profit during the second quarter, as per a company blog post.
