$NIO It’s just a matter of time until the Chinese government requires battery swapping in all EVs. Flash charging and fast charging drain the grid.

If there is a positive that comes out of the Iran embargo it is the fact the Chinese government will double down on EVs and battery storage nodes to save all energy produced.

$NIO
China wants three things at once:
 1. More EV adoption
 2. Less oil dependence
 3. A more flexible power grid that can absorb renewables and manage peak demand

Battery swap fits that agenda almost perfectly. A swap station is not just a “gas station for batteries.” It can also be a distributed energy-storage node: charge batteries at night or during renewable oversupply, then reduce grid stress during peak periods. That is exactly the kind of dual-use infrastructure Beijing tends to like.

China’s NDRC has already moved in this direction through vehicle-grid interaction policy. In 2024, Chinese agencies issued guidelines aiming to validate NEVs as “mobile electrochemical energy storage” and shift a large share of charging into off-peak periods by 2025. Then in 2025, China launched 30 large-scale vehicle-to-grid pilot projects across nine cities, involving NDRC, grid companies, provincial governments, and power-trading participation.
