Validators are elected daily based on the amount of BNB staked or delegated to them, and the system employs fast finality and slashing penalties to maintain security and integrity. To manage its long-term economy, the project uses a programmatic dual-burn strategy that permanently removes tokens through real-time fee destruction and quarterly buybacks.  Launched in 2017 by the Binance platform, the project initially distributed 50% of its 200 million token supply to the public, while the founding team received 40% and angel investors were allocated 10%. Though it began as a token on the Ethereum network, it eventually migrated to its own autonomous architecture that remains fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Today, the token's utility includes paying for network gas, participating in staking rewards, and enabling decentralized governance through which holders can vote on technical upgrades and economic changes.

Key features include a built-in distributed exchange for trading assets without intermediaries and the Soroban platform for developing smart contracts. Users can also utilize the network for tokenizing real-world assets or accessing decentralized finance services like peer-to-peer lending.  Stellar's native token, XLM, is essential for maintaining network integrity by acting as an intermediary to find efficient exchange paths and preventing spam through small transaction fees and minimum account balance requirements. Unlike many other digital assets, the network has no inflation because the community voted to disable the automatic creation of new tokens. While the project received early funding from the payments company Stripe, it is now sustained by a global community of validators and developers rather than traditional venture capital.

VeChainThor combines EVM-compatible smart contracts with a dual-token model, native fee delegation and multi-clause transactions. VET is the network’s native asset and staking collateral, while VTHO is used to pay transaction fees and execute smart contracts.  VeChain’s ecosystem includes VeBetter, an app platform that rewards verified positive actions; StarGate, its NFT-based staking platform; VeWorld, its self-custody wallet; and VeWorld.ai, its AI-agent platform. In its April 2026 roadmap, VeChain reported that VeBetter had reached 5.3 million users, more than 50 live applications and over 50 million verified actions.
