Sia Says Free Speech Flops Without Privacy

Platforms exploit your personal data to censor or surveil, proving real free speech demands actual data privacy.

Siacoin (SC) believes our freedom to voice our opinions is under attack on the internet. Each time we post, share and message, we are leaving a digital trail that will be used to indict us. It’s not so much what we say now as who controls where our words land.

Take shadow banning - it’s the equivalent of being gagged without you even being aware of it. You feel as if you are broadcasting out to the world, but your posts disappear meekly into the ether. It happens across every major platform - Facebook, X, TikTok, etc.

And Google turns over our data to the government thousands of times a year. And they don’t even require proof anymore, just draw a circle on a map and collect everyone’s location data within it.

Yeah, the US has the First Amendment, but what does it matter when private companies can shut you up with the click of a button? Or while a cloud service that holds your family photos is reading them for its own reasons? Sia says: admit it - if you don’t control your data, you don’t control your voice. And you can pass the mute button to someone else at will.

The deck is stacked so that it will remain so.

That power over us is beloved by companies and governments - it’s lucrative and it keeps them in control. Sia has new tech that is paving the way for individuals to actually own their digital footprint. When your stuff is encrypted and distributed across a network, it makes it significantly more difficult for anyone to shut you down.

Without actual privacy, we're just play-acting at free speech.

They big guys will continue to manipulate our personal data to own the conversation unless we come to expect better. We need tools that place us in control of our own information again. Or we will never find the sort of freedom to really say what we think.
