Dan Ives, managing director at Wedbush Securities, said on Wednesday that concerns tied to ongoing geopolitical instability have intensified market nervousness already affected by challenges like the AI Ghost Trade and worries about Anthropic's recent tools.

Despite recent sell-offs, Ives sees certain technology stocks as resilient and well-positioned to weather this turmoil.

Cybersecurity Shines Strong

In a post on the X platform, Ives highlights 10 key tech companies that offer defensive advantages in this volatile environment, especially those connected to the cybersecurity and defense sectors.

The stocks include CrowdStrike (CRWD), Palo Alto Networks (PANW), Check Point Software Technologies (CHKP), Microsoft (MSFT), Palantir (PLTR), Apple (AAPL), Salesforce (CRM), Planet Labs (PL), ServiceNow (NOW), and Voyager Technologies (VOYG).

Ives said CrowdStrike holds steady amid market sell-off due to its innovative Falcon platform, which strengthens its position against growing AI-driven cyber threats. PANW uses AI to enhance its security solutions, addressing the increased risk posed by attackers exploiting AI vulnerabilities.

CHKP remains strategically placed in cybersecurity, advancing offerings across SASE, ERM, and AI-enhanced email security to capitalize on growing demand, said Ives.

Defensive Plays In Technology

According to Ives, Microsoft stands as a defensive stalwart in the sector, with a strong $625 billion backlog fueled by cloud and AI monetization prospects over the upcoming quarters. Meanwhile, Palantir continues to secure deals with U.S. federal agencies, strengthened by its role as the default platform builder for the Department of Defense’s AI initiatives.

Ives called Apple a reliable name with solid consumer product sales and strong cash flow, particularly supported by the iPhone 17 upgrade cycle.

He noted that CRM benefits from its deep AI integration and continues to monetize an extensive customer base, and that ServiceNow holds promise as AI-driven infrastructure grows more entrenched.
